Higher Order Thinking is the AOL on which the reflection is performed in the current study. The study investigates on a real world business problem as well as situations through effective analysis, assessment as well as synthesis of relevant theories and practices.

Reporting and Responding:

I have faced a pivotal journey during my academic career that helps me to investigate the importance of Higher Order Thinking AOL. The incident took placed during my final year of strategic management class where I was tasked on a research project. It led me to analyse a real world business scenario and issues that help to analyse related theories and practices. I knew that this project will be a reflection into my ability to investigate into the real-world business problems which will be crucial in my learning and further down the line in my chosen career path.

When I was reflecting on my response to this incident, I realized that I had to approach it systematically. Therefore, I started to approach it meticulously by defining the research problem first and then breaking it down into manageable components and establishing clear objectives. I also went on to conduct elaborate review of the existing literature which allowed me to apply theories in the practical context effectively. My approach involved a synthesis of both qualitative as well as quantitative research methods which I had acquired throughout my degree. However, while I was on the course of this project, I encountered several challenges. According to Hariri et al., (2019), one significant challenge when dealing with data is incorrect and sometimes even contradictory data. This probed me to apply my independent judgement skills and I often found myself wondering “How can I adapt the available information to effectively analyze and solve the problem?” On top of that, time management was crucial as I had to balance this work along with my already existing coursework and part-time work commitments.

Therefore, in response to these challenges, I developed a structured plan that allocated specific time slots for data collection, analysis and report writing. When I had any doubts and needed guidance, I went to my professor for guidance who helped me clarify any doubts I had and guided in any way possible. This incident taught me the importance of reaching out for help whenever I needed it and effectively managing my time which are essential skills when investigating real-world business problems.

Relating

When I was relating my experience with the research project to my own capabilities and prior encounters, I found that this incident highlighted my growth over the course of this degree. Before starting this degree, I never tackled a problem of this magnitude. The actual challenge was not just in my knowledge of the problem but also in the application of the theories in real-world scenarios. When I was in the initial years of my degree, I lacked practical skills and knowledge needed to navigate through a business problem of this complexity. However, when I was in my final year, I was able to address a complexity of this magnitude because of my analytical abilities, critical thinking, and academic skills. I was able to do this due to the progressive development I made over the years. This further made me realize how my academic journey led me to equip myself with theoretical and practical knowledge which allows me to provide solutions to deal with real-world business problems.

Reasoning

The significant factors underlying the research project are multifaceted. Firstly, the complexity of the business issue required a comprehensive understanding of the strategic management concepts. Therefore, I had to apply concepts like SWOT analysis, business strategy and competitive advantage to properly analyze the problem. These factors were crucial to develop a sound solution. Secondly, when there was incomplete and conflicting data, there was the emphasis on the need for sound judgement and ability to interpret data critically. This highlighted the significance of using available resources judiciously to draw informed conclusions (Tan, 2021). To support my reasonings, I referred to relevant literature in strategic manner. For example, I applied Porter’s Five Forces model to analyze the industry dynamics in the project. On top of that, I also relied on academic sources on research methodology to ensure the accuracy of my data collection and analysis.

Reconstruction

The learning from this incident will significantly inform my professional practices in the near future. When facing similar situations, I would take an approach with more confidence and a well-structured plan. Reflecting on this experience, I would emphasize on the importance of a clear roadmap with detailed time management and effective communication with professional stakeholders. Seeking guidance and mentorship from an experienced professional will be a valuable step as I did with my professor. I would also like to broaden my knowledge base with relevant theories and research methods which would help me with my future projects. In the future, I would also like to continue using a systematic and structured approach to problem solving. This will ensure that I can effectively put my theoretical knowledge into practice (Balasubramanian & Fernandes, 2022). In this way I am confident that I will be able to effectively employ my knowledge to work through real-world business issues and continue to improve myself. I will be better equipped to provide comprehensive and well-founded solutions.

As per as Palepu et al., (2020), in order to solve business problems in real-world, it is important to understand what one is studying. Based on those learnings, one should also develop critical thinking skills which will facilitate their growth and understand how to tackle with problems. The ideas presented by me are also supported by management scholars like Michael Porter whose strategic frameworks and analytical tools are widely regarded in the field. On top of that, I will also continue to stay updated on contemporary literature and best practices to enhance my professional practice further.

“Can you give me an example of when you utilized your Higher Order Thinking (HO) knowledge to solve a complex and novel work problem?”

Situation

During my final year of study, I encountered a complex and novel work problem while working on a strategic management research project. This piece of work involves an exploration of the business issues of the actual world through an application of theoretical knowledge, critical analysis, and a synthesis of both.

Task

In order to understand and address this complex problem, first, I had to look into the research problem and based on it, make out goals and create a plan to achieve the same (Alvarez-Rodriguez et al., 2021). Next, using literature review, I got the opportunity to understand and apply theories as well frameworks. Action

I started to deal with this issue by looking into the problem’s scope and fragmenting it into smaller, feasible parts. I used my critical judgement whenever I ran into any problem relating to incomplete data or occasional contradictory data. I frequently conducted feedback meetings and kept open lines of communication with my teammates and supervisors throughout the project. This provided me with flexibility to change and improve my research strategies as needed.

Result

Finally, with the help of my researched report, I could offer practical solutions thorough the thorough understanding of the problem. My research received positive feedback from my project supervisors and peers and was highly regarded. My High Order Thinking (HO) skills like that of evaluation, analysis, synthesis of theory and practice became apparent. This experience not only strengthened my academic performance but also instilled in me the confidence to apply these skills to the real-world scenarios.

This experience showcases my ability to apply theoretical knowledge into practical scenarios and thereby solve real-world business issues by applying High Order Thinking (HO). It accentuates my ability to critically gauge through the relevant theories and apply the relevant ones, deal with incomplete data and exercise independent judgement based on the information. In a real-world context, these are the capabilities that enable to deal with complex issues and find relevant solutions (Ali, 2019). I can confidently say that well-preparedness to apply knowledge in practice will help me with my professional career in the future.
