Assessment description
In this assessment you will be developing your own individual career development plan, which you will submit as part of a portfolio. As part of this assessment, you will be required to complete an online module (Introduction to Career Development, Planning and Management Online Module 1) designed to help you in this process of development.
The career plan explores and maps all the respective factors that need to be researched, considered and documented. You will also need outline your strengths, weaknesses (developmental needs), opportunities and threats in a SWOT analysis which you will need to consider in relation to your career goals.
Your portfolio will include three pieces:
- Certificate of achievement (received upon completion of the online module and quiz)
- Career development plan
- SWOT analysis
Aim
The aim of this assessment is to develop a career portfolio outlining your career goals and actions that will help you achieve these goals. This assessment also aims to help you understand how you can use your strengths and opportunities to overcome developmental needs and threats in achieving your goal.
By completing this assessment, you will be able to:
CO3: Identify interpersonal and other employability skills
CO4: Apply career management skills to design a career portfolio
Criteria
You will be assessed on your ability to develop career goals and complete your career plan along with your ability to identify and describe your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Part 1: Online Career Development Module and Quiz
In week 7, a Career Adviser will introduce you to the UniSA online Career Development Module 1which you will need to complete as well as a short quiz. The module will provide an in-depth overview of career development, planning and management. Using the SODA framework, you will be guided through a range of activities that will enable you to research and explore career possibilities available to you, and help you start developing a career plan. This online module and career plan will also help you to:
Identify your personal traits and confirm that you are in the right program for the right reasons.
Explore labour market trends to ensure that you have job options when you graduate.
Establish goals that will help you build your employability and experiential learning in order to succeed in your chosen career.
Upon completion of the module, you will be required to take a short multiple-choice quiz. You will need to achieve a score of at least 80% to pass to receive your Certificate of Achievement. You will have three attempts to undertake the quiz. Your highest score will be your final score. It is important to attempt this quiz as early as possible as extensions are not provided for failing to receive a certificate on time. The Certificate can be accessed from the homepage of the Career Development Module 1.
We recommend using the Career Portfolio Workbook to guide you through the module and help you complete your Career Development Plan (in Part 2) and quiz. You do not need to submit the Career Portfolio workbook for marking, is may be a useful way of capturing your current thoughts and reflections about your career, which you can return to at a later date.
Part 2: Career Development Plan
A Career Development Plan is a way of documenting your career goals and aspirations in clearly actionable steps. An important part of developing this plan is undertaking self-assessments to build awareness of yourself, and undertaking labour market research to understand the opportunities available to you. Topics 7 and 8 will help you develop your Career Plan.
In the online Career Development Module 1,you will notice there are essential activities and optional activities. The essential activities must be completed as they are required in the development of your Career Development Plan. The 'Optional' activities are not required for you to complete however they may deepen your learning if you want to do so.

Part 3: SWOT Analysis
Topic 9 will introduce you to the SWOT analysis. Your SWOT analysis will require you to reflect on your personal and professional development using the Strengths, Weaknesses (or areas for development), Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) format.
Within your SWOT analysis you will need to:
- Identify and explain five strengths
- Identify and explain five areas for development(weaknesses)
- Identify five opportunities(these must include three courses within your program) you plan to take as well as any other external development opportunities that may enhance strengths or address any areas needing development
- Identify and explain five threats to achievement of your career goal.

Word Count
Please note the maximum word count for your SWOT Analysis is 2250. This does not include your Career Plan. Marks will be deducted from papers exceeding this limit based on the percentage by which the limit is exceeded, with 1?ducted for every 1% over the limit.
