CAREER PASSPORT: FEEDBACK ON THOSE BURNING QUESTIONS!

After receiving feedback from the Student as Partner reps, there are some themes in the questions being asked, so thought it was best to answer them in a Q and A format!

What do we do for our passport modules after the compulsory employability survey?

There are heaps and heaps to choose from!

First of all, if you go to the assessment tab, when you open the career passport tab you will see this:

Highlighted in yellow is a pdf version of the table you can print out and have handy. Highlighted in orange is how they all map to your employability survey results. You also see information on each of the modules, what they are about and where to locate them.

In the Career Passport Year 1 in Curtin Challenge (access via the menu tab in blackboard) they are all listed:

Optional modules: there are four at the end of the list in the deliverables tab in Curtin challenge career passport. This allows you to select activities/programs/workshops that are scheduled during the semester (either at Curtin or elsewhere) that we couldnt program in. Simply ask your tutor about whether it is appropriate for the career passport and you then include as an optional module and it becomes one of your three!

How do I link the career passport modules to my employability results?

As mentioned above, the table shows you how each of the employability survey literacies map to each of the career passport modules.

To remind you of how to map them I have also included the powerpoint slides from week 3 in the tab.

This is an example of how you map the results (from week 3 workshop content):

What evidence do I need to include?

The first question in Curtin challenge for all the modules asks you to take a picture and upload evidence.

This can be:

A copy of your registration for the event (either email confirmation or ticket)

A picture of your screen image of content if attending an online module

For all the Curtin challenge modules, a screen capture of your completion.

A picture of the event you attended (i.e. career fair one of the stalls you were really interested in)

What do I have to hand in?

NOTHING! Its all captured in the Curtin Challenge platform and we mark it from there.

How much do I have to write for the reflections?

In the assessment module we give you an approximate: 300 to 500 words PER MODULE. Thats generally between 150 to 250 words for each of the reflection questions.

You will find you write more for the second question. Its an approximate so that you know its more than a couple of sentences but not a page for each question!

What do I write for the reflections?

As highlighted in the assessment tab, we ask you to think about how the module/activity links to your employability survey results.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Why did you choose the module and how does it relate to your employability survey results?

Why did you choose it? Was it just one on the list? Was there something that attracted you or interested you? Did someone recommend it?

What did you learn? Did you gain more than you thought you would?

What did you like about the module?

What did you learn about yourself?

What skills did you learn?

How will the module help you improve your employability and gain that career you want when you graduate?

All these prompt questions are in the assessment tab for the career passport.

MARKS

The Career Passport is worth 30% of the total mark for the unit.

ASSESSMENT DETAILS

Due date: Friday 19 May by 10PM AWST. However, the following milestones should be followed to ensure you complete by the due date:

Employability tool - completed along with reflection by week 3 (module 03).

Complete second module by week 8 (module 07).

Complete third module by week 10 (module 09).

Complete fourth module by week 12 (module 11) (the week it is due - 19 May!).

Throughout the semester you have been asked to participate in the career passport via Curtin Challenge. Due to its impact on the development of the employability skills required for work, it is now offered across 17 units in the Faculty of Business and Law.

The career passport is a way for students to document their work integrated learning (WIL) and employability skill development activities.

The opportunity for the career passport to be acknowledged as a module by LinkedIn is being considered and investigated. In the future, it is anticipated that the career passport will be micro-credentialed. This will enable employers and external entities to view student accomplishments, thus improving graduate employability outcomes.

You have been asked to participate in and reflect on at least four different modules: activities and programs to enhance you own employability skills.

One is compulsory - the employability assessment in week one, but the other three are voluntary. It is expected that the three other modules you select will be guided by the results of your employability tool profile results.

The employability tool cannot be accessed via Curtin Challenge - only through the link provided in the Week One Module. The associated reflection piece is accessed via Curtin Challenge.

Modules are to be completed over the course of the semester.

HOW TO SELECT MODULES!

The following information is here to help you understand how to select Modules which will improve your employability.

You have been asked to participate in and reflect on a range of different modules: activities and programs to enhance you own employability skills. The details of each module and links are in the information sheet below.

Your participation and reflection is logged and verified via the "Career Passport Year 1" area in Curtin Challenge.

Your tutor will be checking your progress and as well as evaluating your reflection and responses to the questions.

This is a developmental piece of assessment that you will be participating in throughout the entire semester.

It is up to you to check in and ensure you have completed the minimum of four required modules along with any reflection pieces and follow up questions.

A list of the types of modules available and an introductory video is available here and a full overview of the Career Passport process will be provided in the workshops. In order for a module to be deemed completed, you are required to both complete the module and reflect upon it. Modules without reflections will not be marked. The information sheet and where to enrol for each of the career passport modules is here:

HOW TO COMPLETE A REFLECTION! (USING CAREER CHALLENGE)

The following information is here to help you understand how to complete a reflection and finish your Modules.

Reflections need to be completed shortly after the module completion. THEY NEED TO BE SPECIFIC AND RELATED TO YOUR EMPLOYABILITY SURVEY RESULTS.

You should aim to write between 150 to 250 words (as a general guide) for each reflection question in order for it to be a comprehensive answer to the questions. The number of words you write will be determined by the type of module/activity you have selected, thus the range in word count. A total word count for each career passport module/activity should be within the range of 300 to 500 words.

It is up to you to check in and ensure you have completed the minimum of four required modules along with any reflection pieces and follow up questions. Further, many students complete extra modules to improve their employability.

Reflections

You are assessed on the depth of self-analysis, linkage to your employability results and awareness in writing your reflections. Think about why you chose the module. Did you gain more than you thought you would in participating in it? What did you learn about yourself? What employability skills did you learn?

Attached you will find some good documents which explains how you reflect:
