Question 1
As a classroom teacher understanding the interdisciplinary engagement taken care of children is very important. There is need to involve other stakeholders such as parents, families, carers and other community healthcare providers such as counselors to help in taking care of children like Eliza who are under protection and subjected to family preservation orders. Such children are usually very vulnerable to prejudice and criticism and therefore as an educator protection of such children is very important. One of the strategies that can be used in protecting the child is engaging in counseling sessions through the community counselor to help in training the child to live with modesty, calmness and gentleness with the rest of the peers. As an educator I will also recommend having regular meetings and communication with all the parties so that we can have equal input regarding Eliza (Hadley & Rouse, 2018). This will help us to understand what is the best way of taking care of the child. Together with the family we will also be able to come up with the learning goals that would help in providing the child with well-being. The family will also play a huge role by providing information about their background needs, cultural values interests and some of the strategies that they have used to handle Eliza. This information will also be very important and necessary when I will be dealing with the child to ensure that I provide fair treatment (Kirkby, Walsh, & Keary, 2019). This will also allow me to get consent from the family on some of the approaches that are best fit to be used to handle Eliza. Using the concept of community of practice model, it is possible to come up with opportunities which will help me collaborate, mentor and network with other stakeholders to provide the child with proper care while in school.
Question 2
Community based practice are very helpful as a teacher to help in supporting students like Eliza. One of the advantages of community-based practice is that it creates a sense of collaboration under practice of social learning. This is going to help me learn from my peers and to understand how they are working in their different disciplines. This is also going to focus and foster a sense of identity and authenticity. In addition, working in collaboration within the community will also allow me to understand the various diverse features and values of the community (Wenger, 2004). Each and every family is unique in its way and coming up together in a social forum will allow me to develop and equip myself with the necessary strategies that can allow me to work with different families such as that one of Eliza. This will also allow me to be able to handle parents fairly while developing positive collaboration partnerships which may help in my career. With interest in the well-being of a child as educators we may come together to explore the interest of pedagogy while the health professionals make also come in and assist us to explore the interest of the children's nutrition. When families, teachers and health professionals come together we are able to support the children health and learning needs. This requires collaboration work with occupational therapist who can help me with the strategies to support toddlers like Eliza independently on certain routines while increasing their physical engagement and developing their psychomotor skills. With the community of practice collaboration, it is possible to gather peoples ideas, share and try new practices with each other. This will contribute favorably to my career development and change in professional development.
