Dr Rikki Wagner has been extremely impressed with our computing firm Mendelssohn Technologies development of Queen of Sheba Wedding Emporiums Decision Support System to date. Dr Wagner wishes to implement the system as soon as possible and would like our firm to develop a detailed User Manual to assist the businesss employees to understand and use this new information system.


Dr Georgie Handel, your supervisor at Mendelssohn Technologies, has provided you with feedback on your Progress Report Memo and the Decision Support System you have been instrumental in developing (Assignment 1 Feedback). You should read carefully through this feedback and include any changes suggested before developing the User Manual.


The User Manual is to be developed for Dr Wagner and the employees at Queen of Sheba Wedding Emporium, you must ensure that the language used in its development is appropriate for a non-technical audience.

What you need to do


Task 1: Developing User Manual Structure


Dr Georgie Handel, your supervisor at Mendelssohn Technologies, has asked you to develop a User Manual for Dr Wagners business Queen of Sheba Wedding Emporium. The User Manual must be designed to be displayed (and printed) as a book.


Create a single new word document and name the file - [lastname] [initial] _ [student number] _ [course code] _ [assignment number] (eg. NerksF_0050051005_cis1000_assign2.docx).


Ensure that the Components of a User Manual and Common Contents of a User Manual are presented in the order given in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.


Set up appropriate sections, headings, page headers and footers (including Roman and Arabic page numbering where appropriate) to display the Components of a User Manual and Common Contents of a User Manual identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Task 5: User Manual Contents: Getting-Started Information


The User Manual for Dr Wagners business must contain any getting-started information you believe the client and users need to know to use the current Decision Support System (Assignment 1) with the current data. This should be in the form of a written getting-started information tutorial with visual aids (screen captures) as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.



Task 6: User Manual Contents: About the Product


The User Manual for Dr Wagners business must contain a description of the product and a review of its essential features as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.



Task 7: User Manual Contents: Instructions


The User Manual for Dr Wagners business must contain a step-by-step set of directions on how to assemble, operate, or troubleshoot the Decision Support System (Assignment 1) using new data and with visual aids (screen captures) as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.



Task 8: Referencing


Your User Manual should include in-text referencing and a List of References, including any references to materials obtained from the textbooks, websites and other reference materials.

References are required and the Harvard AGPS standard of referencing must be used, including in-text referencing. Ensure that your User Manual is fully referenced, including any references to the textbook. Your User Manual should include a List of References using the Harvard AGPS standards. A useful link on referencing is from USQs Library site: <http://www.usq.edu.au/library/referencing>


Any direct and paraphrased quotes must be referenced using Harvard AGPS style and listed in the List of References.


Do not repeat verbatim large portions of information from other sources such as the text or video you must put the ideas/information in your own words. Only use small direct quotes where possible



Submission requirements


This assignment must be all your own work. It is acceptable to discuss course content with others to improve your understanding and clarify requirements, but solutions to assignment questions must be done on your own.


You must not copy from anyone, including tutors and fellow students, nor allow others to copy your work.


Attach the User Manual file using the naming convention below, to your online assignment submission in the Assignment 2 area on the CIS1000 StudyDesk before midnight Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on the day the assignment is due.

Late submissions/ extensions


It is expected that all assessment tasks will be submitted/completed by the published due date. However, as per USQ Assessment Procedure, requests for an extension of due date can be made prior to the due date for the assessment. Extensions prior to the due date for all assignments must be applied for (and will be granted) as per the expectations of the relevant USQ Policies and Procedures. An Assignment submitted after the due date without an approved extension of time will be penalised. The penalty for late submission is a reduction by five percent (5%) of the maximum mark applicable for the assignment, for each Calendar Day or part Day that the assignment is late. An assignment submitted more than five (5) University Business Days after the due date will have a mark of zero recorded for that Assignment.
