The social determinants of health are the conditions individuals live in, and they play a significant role in how an individual may experience their life, including any adversity they may face. Indigenous Australians experience mental illness at rates significantly higher than their non-indigenous counterparts, and their life expectancy is also lower.
This written piece will require students to:
Critically analyse the impact on social and emotional wellbeing of two (2) key social determinants of health (e.g., social exclusion, gender equity etc). Discuss how the two (2) social determinants you have identified can contribute to adverse social and emotional wellbeing in Indigenous Australians.
Length and/or format: 2000 words
Purpose: This assessment task will provide an opportunity for students to critically examine the social determinants that impact on social determinants that impact on physical and mental health of a vulnerable population.
