Task 1: (50 Marks)

You have been appointed as a network security engineer for ABC College - one of the leading private higher education institute in the Sultanate of Oman serving students from the region and around the world. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in different areas of Engineering, Business, Technology and Logistics Management.

ABC College has administrative departments namely, the Accounts, Information Technology, Administration, Human Resource, Support services, Procurement etc. and Academics departments namely, Computing, Electronics, Civil, Mechanical, Languages, Archive, Biomedical etc. There are around 300 staff members and 5000 students. The students are using the college website for payments, faculty and course information, student life page, investigate alumni student profile and other. For this purpose, cryptography is required to ensure the security of the data when students are connecting to the college website using the public internet. Cryptography protect data from the unauthorized person. Data could be hacked in different forms, such as, content of information, text data, images, audios, and videos so on which are co-relate data to combine during the communication process or storage, these techniques called an encryption process. As a network security engineer, you have been assigned the task to prepare a detailed report covering the following aspects of cryptography.

  1. AnalyzeHTTPS protocol for secure communication when the students visit the ABC College (25 Marks)
  2. Discussexamples for RSA and Diffie-Hellman algorithms key exchange that provide security foundation for the college website (25 Marks)

Expectation: The literature is well supported with 4 or more in-text citation and referencing using APA 7th edition referencing style.

Task 2: (50 Marks)

  1. Select a published paper (preferably from the ACM DL or IEEE CSDL) that discuss the Data EncryptionStandard (DES) (For example, permutation, substitution, security, ) Summarize this paper in two pages. The summary should include the main ideas presented in the paper. The paper you select MUST NOT BE DISCUSSED with ANOTHER STUDENT. (25 Marks)

Select a published paper (preferably from the ACM DL or IEEE CSDL) that discuss the Hash Functions (For example, properties, types, applications, signatures, security, etc.) Summarize this paper in two pages. The summary should include the main ideas presented in the paper. The paper you select MUST NOT BE DISCUSSED with ANOTHER STUDENT.
