Assignment #3: Executive Dashboards
Instructions
Individual Submission: You must do all the work yourself. Written reports should be submitted by EMAIL to the professor. Videos should be submitted by email to the professor, or by web-link, if the video file is too large. Dashboards should be submitted in RUNTIME versions, assuming that the professor does not have access to Power BI, TABLEAU ETC.
Value : The assignment is worth 25% of your final grade. Bonus marks may be allocated for exceptional work, students presenting in person and otherwise at the discretion of the professor.
Due Dates: Because of final mark and graduation deadlines, NO EXTENSIONS will be permitted. In cases of genuine emergency, students may negotiate an INCOMPLETE grade with the professor, whereby the final project will be presented in January. In such cases, the final grade for the Fall semester will show as INCOMPLETE and will be updated in January 2023.

Written report and power point presentation (if developed) ALL STUDENTS no matter when the presentation is made or whether a video is made: EMAIL to professor before Dec 13, 2022 @23:59.
In class live presentation as assigned by professor (Nov 30, Dec 7 or Dec 14) presentation MUST be made at the assigned time.
Students who are NOT assigned an in class live presentation time must submit their video presentation by email or web link to the professor by Dec 13 @23:59.

Assignment (Rubric and Deliverables)
Using the data file provided and any BI tool at your disposal (e.g., Tableau, power BI, MS Excel, etc..), your tasks are to:
A: 30% of assignment Develop an executive dashboard which helps to understand the provided Coffee Cup data file and generate insights about the data
B: 25% of assignment Prepare a report detailing:
the work done to prepare the data (clean etc.),
the results of your exploratory data analysis (initial look at the data)
basic insights learned from the data via the dashboard
non-obvious and important business insights learned from the data via the dashboard
any other relevant matters
C: 20% of assignment Clearly answer the following questions about Coffee Cup in both your report and your presentation/video:
Which store is MOST profitable (dollars)
Which store is MOST profitable (best GROSS margin)
Which store is MOST profitable (best NET margin)
Which products should be dropped and why?
Which products should be added and why?
What GROWTH STRATEGY would you recommend based on the data?
D: 25% of assignment Presenting live in class or preparing a VIDEO of a presentation: (a) explaining the design of your dashboard, (b) explaining to management how to use it, (c) describing your important insights about the data content and Coffee Cups business and prospects, and (d) any important data and other issues. Presentation or video should be 15 25 minutes long.
Background The Coffee Cup
You have been given data for a Canadian national coffee company called The Coffee Cup. The Coffee Cup provides coffee connoisseurs with a wide array of choices that satisfy discriminating palates, while providing prompt and courteous service.
Their mission statement is:
To provide the worlds ultimate coffee shop experience with the highest-quality products, most: to have inviting stores, friendliest staff and best value.
The Coffee Cups goal is to be the neighbourhood coffee house you know and love, and you think of when you desire a freshly brewed cup of hot coffee or desire a specialty tea selection.
The Coffee Cup corporate values is to earn the trust and loyalty from their guests by showing what they believe in everyday by knowing what they stand for and acting in a way that supports it.
This means:

A few performance metrics that management considers are:
Cost of Goods, Coffee Store Performance, Customer Loyalty, Profits and Sales, Product Inventory, and any other metrics that the data might lead to.
There are MANY other informative metrics, as well
DETAILS OF THE WORK REQUIRED
A (dashboard) Develop a dashboard to provide information and insight to senior management for decisions-making (primary) and operations (secondary). You may use whatever product you wish, but must provide the dashboard to the professor in RUNTIME version.
B (report MSWord only)
[Data] Analyze the raw data set (describe how you did this) and comment about the quality of the data. Discuss how you cleaned the data prior to using it in the dashboard. What assumptions did you have to make about the data when you cleaned it? What data cleaning tools did you use and why?
[Business questions & insights - I] Identify a list of business questions that the data can answer. Include NON OBVIOUS, STRATEGIC and OPERATONAL business questions. (Provide at least 20 questions.)
[Business questions & insights - II] Identify any business questions which the provided data cannot answer but which you believe are important for the management of the business. What ADDITIONAL DATA would be needed to answer these other questions?
[Strategy Map] Prepare a STRATEGY MAP for Coffee Cup, based on all the data and information provided and based on your dashboard analysis, as well. Make sure that your strategy map ALIGNS with the company vision and mission statement.
[Screenshots] Provide 7 10 screenshots of your dashboard as part of your report, to show how it works and some of the insights which the dashboard can provide.
[Special Questions] Answer all the special questions identified in section C below and show how the dashboard provides the answers to them.
[Other Contents] Introduction, general discussion, business recommendations based on the data, data-related recommendations, conclusion.

Live presenters should be prepared to answer questions as they describe their dashboard and findings. Video presentations should ensure that all special questions (section C) are answered in the video. Many students use the power point recording function to prepare their videos.
