ASSIGNMENT 2 GUIDELINES

The Learning Guide provides the following details about this assignment. I have highlighted key words

In this assignment you will see yourself as the Director/ Nominated Supervisor of a standalone community based education and care service. A new management committee has just been elected and they have requested that you write a report for the committee that will help them as they work with you to develop the next Quality Improvement Plan for their service.

The setting has had its assessment and rating just before the new Committee were elected and has now received the Outcome. A copy is available when you follow the Assessment 2 link.

As Director you will write a report that:

  • provides an overview of the responsibilities of the management committee in relation to the Education and Care Services National Regulations and The Education and Care Services National Law

  • draws on management theory to help the new committee understand their functions and roles

  • provides a brief overview of the Quality Improvement System

  • identifies two quality areas, and recommends three goals within those areas, that will be a priority for you over the next 12 months in helping the service to move toward a rating of excellent.

  • You will need to use the Outcome Summary document provided. As this is a report you may use headings, diagrams and tables.

  • identifies at least 3 steps for each goal that could be used to achieve the goals

In order to complete the assignment you will need to

  • Introduce the Report - The reports purpose and how you will address this.

    • This is like an introduction for the report. It should be 1 2 paragraphs. You do not need to write an executive summary.

  • Provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the Management Committee in relation to the Law and regulations

    • You will need to identify what position the management committee holds under the legislation You will need to look at the Regulations and perhaps some fact sheets from the ACECQA website to assist with this.

    • What areas do the roles and responsibilities cover?

    • Remember this is a standalone CCC that is community based. You need to make clear that you have an understanding of this. Go back and check vUWS.

  • c Draw on management theory to help the new committee understand their functions and roles. We have looked in class at some of the different roles and functions covered by a range of theorists Fayols management functions, Yukls taxonomy, etc. Synthesise your understanding of this theory as you outline what the management committee needs to do to meet its responsibilities.

  • d. Provides a brief overview of the Quality Improvement System

    • - how does it work and what areas are covered including the rating system ( a diagram may be helpful here)

    • Remember your management committee may be parents with now understanding of how education and care works

      • This is an overview of how the system operates. It does not require you to go into huge detail. You do not, for example, need to tell me every element of each quality area.
  • e. Review the Outcome Summary that has been provided and look at the Quality Improvement Plan notes that form part of the

    • Have a good look through the outcome summary and get a good picture of the service. What are they doing well ( at the level to have met the standard)

    • What do the notes say
  • f. Choose 2 Quality areas and using the QIP notes determine at least 3 goals, for each of the quality areas you have chosen, that you will recommend to the Management Committee to be worked toward over the next 12 Be clear in stating the goals. You must link them to the comments in the QIP notes.

    • You should choose from Quality area1, Quality area 3, Quality area 5, Quality area 6, Quality area 7

    • You are planning to make progress toward getting an exceeding rating in 3 years time when the centre is reassessed. That means for this year you are planning to work toward achieving 3 goals in each area.

    • Choose your 3 goals for each area. The outcome statement provides guidance about what you should be working toward. Most things will take more than a year to achieve and you may need to break the overall goal down into some shorter term goals. That is to say the big goal can be achieved in 3 years but to make it more manageable you will have some yearly goals that help you work toward that big goal.

    • You must link your goals to the QIP notes

    • I would recommend that you check the ACECQA website as well and find the Guide to the National Quality Standard This may assist you

  • You can put this information in a table if you wish. That might make it easier to manage

  • You need at least 3 steps or strategies that you will use to achieve each goal. Dont make your goals too broad ( so dont use the wording directly from the Outcome summary because those things that are outline=d are to be achieved over 3 years and you are looking at just 1 year)

  • Remember you are seeing yourself as the Director/ Nominated Supervisor. This means you are responsible for the day to day operation of the service, so its your responsibility to think about how you will get your team of staff to achieve these goals. How you will get it done will be your strategies

  • You should reference your strategies to literature. what do managers do?

  • Make sure you think about the day to day things you will do your practice as the manager.

You will conclude the report by making recommendations about the goals you would like the management committee to endorse for the next year.
