Prior Knowledge: - Katsushika Hokusais The Great Wave who was he? - Know some of the techniques used by artists e.g. short brush strokes. - What are blue tints, tones and shades? - Know the difference between the background, midground and foreground? |
||
Learning Objectives: To be able to use different brush stroke techniques e.g. feathering and stippling to create the sea foam and bubbles on the waves. To know that curved lines create a feeling of movement. |
Success Criteria: - I can control my brush strokes to create different techniques in my painting. - I can explain the techniques used in my artwork. - I can create a finished piece of artwork that shows my understanding. |
|||||
Timing: Give children clear expectations of how long they have got to complete a task- have a countdown timer on the board so children can visually see how long they have. This will help children stay focused and motivate them to work efficiently. |
Starter/Input: Discuss what blue tints, tones and shades are and background, midground and foreground? (prior knowledge) Main Focus: Using different brush strokes to create the sea foam and bubbles on their wave paintings. Plenary: Gallery walk - students walk around the classroom looking at each others artwork. They can discuss what they like about their peers work and give positive comments. |
Assessment: - Make sure all children can talk about their learning ask the class questions about prior learning and the artist. - While I monitor the classroom and move to different tables, ask children to reflect on their own work e.g. What do you like the most about your artwork? OR What would you change next time?. This helps children critically reflect on their creative decisions. |
||||
Additional Adults: Teaching Assistant- I will direct which children/child they should work with to provide extra support. |
Resources: - Art paper - 2 paintbrushes - White paint - Artbook - The Great Wave example artwork on each table for children to see. |
Adaptive teaching: - Modelling and demonstrating tasks to provide a visual example of what I expect from students. By modelling each step, it scaffolds the learning for children. |
||||
Learning Outcome: To produce a waterscape inspired by the work of Katsushika Hokusais The Great Wave. |
Evaluation: - Did students achieve the intended learning outcomes? - Were students actively involved and motivated through the lesson? - Were all students supported and able to access the task? - Was the lesson pace suitable? |
