Students will discuss the significance of diversity within that population and critically evaluate and reflect upon their nursing practice against the NMBA (2016) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.

Task Purpose

This assignment will help students analyse and critically evaluate their nursing practice in the context of providing care to individuals from diverse populations. This task will foster a deeper understanding of the complexities and challenges associated with nursing in diverse settings and will promote culturally safe evidence-based practices across diverse settings.

Topic: Older people in residential care.

Introduction

Briefly outline the care that you provided to them remembering to de-identify all information.

(Approx 300 words)

Identify why your chosen population is considered diverse and include:

Social determinants of healthand how they impact this population.

Health inequalities(the differences in health status between population groups) such as differences in wellbeing, risk of disease, abuse/violence, healthy life expectancy, morbidity and mortality.

Health inequities(differences in health status between population groups that are socially produced, systematic in their unequal distribution across the population, avoidable and unfair) such as differences in access, affordability, income etc.

Health outcomes Discuss key health issues impacting this population i.e. certain diseases, mental health issues, injuries etc

Care Considerations- Using current evidence-based practice, discuss the nursing care considerations that would be important in caring for an individual of this population.

(Approx 700 words)

Critically reflect and evaluate:

Reflect upon your own practice whilst caring for this patient and identify your strengths and areas for development (including gaps, weaknesses, and bias). Did you find anything particularly difficult? Is there something that you feel you did well in relation to caring for this population?

Consider changes that you may need to make to your practice in the future and how you would apply these using evidence-based practice. Your discussion should highlight and link tothreeRegistered Nurse Standards.

For Example, Standard 2: Engaging in a therapeutic and professional relationship.
