The Early Years Learning FrameworkLinks to an external site. (DET, 2022, v.2) relies on Laeverss (1994, p. 59) definition of wellbeing:
A sound wellbeing results from the satisfaction of basic needs including physical, social-emotional and mental health.
Respond to this statement whilst considering childrens positive wellbeing and how closely this is tied to childrens social and emotional development.
This essay will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the theories of childrens social and emotional development and the importance of supporting childrens wellbeing with consideration to the physical, social, spiritual and emotional aspects of the child.
In your essay, you will:
summarise the concept of wellbeing, with consideration to the physical, social, spiritual and emotional aspects of the child
describe and analyse the theories of social and emotional development
draw on literature to articulate your understanding in relation to supporting childrens social and emotional skills to develop positive wellbeing.
Your essay must include the following sections:
Introduction (100120 words)
Introduce the topic and the overall structure of the essay.
Define wellbeing.
As a general rule, an introduction should be no more than 10% of the total word count (120 words). You will therefore need to be succinct.
The body (approx. 9601000 words)
Apply your understanding of key theories and analyse these with consideration to childrens social and emotional development. All claims you make must be supported by evidence and draw on ideas from scholarly and professional literature, for example from the Early Years Learning Framework [EYLF] (Department of Education & Training [DET], 2022).
Consider the concept of wellbeing, including the physical, social, spiritual and emotional aspects of the child and how these can be developed and supported. For instance, in learning environments to promote positive wellbeing, draw on literature to articulate your understanding.
Conclusion
Summarise the main points and a concluding comment.
Should be no more than 10% of the overall word countso no more than 120 words.
