Weighting:This assignment makes up 40 per cent of the overall assessment score for the module.

You are not required to include an ethical statement for this assignment and you do not need to work through activities as you did for the TMAs.

There are three parts to this EMA. Depending on the format of your Subject Knowledge Journey, you will either complete all parts in one document, or submit two documents zipped into one file. Guidance on submitting multiple documents can be foundhere.

Documents should be written using a sans serif font such as Arial, size 12. Spacing should be 1.5 lines. Guidance on how to format documents can be foundhere.

For this assignment, you need to include separate reference lists for Part 1 and Part 2. These reference lists do not contribute to the word count.

Structure

You should structure your assignment as follows.

Part 1:Using digital technologies for learning (1500 words)

Part 1 is 50 per cent of your overall EMA grade.

Task

Create a plan for an interdisciplinary lesson which makes effective use of ICT to develop both a computing and a science learning outcome.

Purpose

This task develops your ICT subject knowledge and your understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to learning. You will also consolidate and extend your Block 2 learning about the relationship between subject knowledge and planning. This task gives you the opportunity to practice professional skills related to planning learning activities for children.

Guidance

In Block 5 you have explored how digital technologies can be used across the curriculum. In this assignment you will plan a 2030 minute activity for primary children that makes effective use of ICT to support the teaching and learning of computing and science. You can choose which scientific and computing topics to teach for your activity, so that you can personalise your learning to your own goals and interests. However, the topic of the activity must be different to the topic you explored for your TMA 04 Part 1.

You can choose which age group within the primary age range this activity is for, such as P1, Year 3 or Upper Key Stage 2.

You are not required to work through activities in order to complete the EMA. However, you may wish to revisitActivity 9.4and the feedback you received for TMA 02 to support you to complete your EMA Part 1. The Block 5 Study Guide and activities will also support you to complete this part of your assignment.

i.Using appropriate national curriculum documents (such as the Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland, or the Curriculum for Wales), identify a learning objective for the activity which is suitable for the age range you have selected.

ii.Using theplanning grid, create an activity plan which includes details of the following aspects:

Complete all sections of the grid. You need to provide evidence to justify the choices you make. This evidence might come from curriculum documents, school policies, the Study Guide and Activities, the module readers, or wider academic reading.

iii.Once you have completed your activity plan, copy and paste it into your EMA document.

Evidence should be cited in-text and included in the reference list at the end of Part 1. Please follow the referencing guidelines foundhere.

Part 2:My subject knowledge learning (1500 words)

Part 2 is 50 per cent of your overall EMA grade.

Task

Create a representation of your subject knowledge journey throughout E209.

Purpose

This task will develop your skills as a reflective practitioner by asking you to reflect upon and analyse your subject knowledge development in E209. By considering your own experiences, you will present your understanding of how subject knowledge can be developed. You will develop your understanding of how an adults subject knowledge can be used to help develop the subject knowledge of children. You will develop targets for your future learning that will support your ongoing academic and professional development. You will consolidate your learning about forms of media and communication from Block 3, and apply that learning in practice. You will develop your skills of analysis by analysing your own experiences, and will celebrate what you have achieved during your E209 studies.

Guidance

Reflect on your subject and pedagogical content knowledge journey throughout E209. Consider how your subject knowledge has developed during the module, what steps you have taken to develop your subject knowledge, and your plans for the future. The subject knowledge journey allows you to reflect on, analyse, and celebrate the learning you have done on E209. You can present this journey in any format that can be submitted through the EMA system and will allow you to effectively communicate the required information. For example, it could be an essay, a poster, a slideshow, a comic, or a mind map. Whichever medium you choose, the word count is 1500 words. You are not required to follow the requirements for font size for this task, please choose an appropriate font and size based on the medium of communication you have chosen. Guidance on accepted file types can be foundhere.

Your subject knowledge journey needs to include reflections on:

the subject and pedagogical content knowledge you brought with you into E209

the four areas of subject and pedagogical content knowledge you have developed the most

the activities and resources that enabled you to develop those areas

the impact this new knowledge could have on childrens learning

the next steps you will take in your subject knowledge development journey

your views on the importance of subject knowledge, and how these have changed over the course of the module.

You should use the plan you created in TMA 04, along with the feedback you received from your peers and your tutor, to create your representation of your subject knowledge journey. You may also want to revisit the notes you made inActivity 28.5.

You need to provide evidence or educational theory to justify your arguments. Evidence may come from your audits, the activities you undertook during the module, your lived experiences before and during the module such as knowledge gained through work, parenting or volunteering, curriculum documents, or school policies. Educational theories may come from the Study Guides and Activities, the module readers, or wider academic reading.

All evidence and theory should be cited in-text and included in the reference list at the end of Part 2. Please follow the referencing guidelines foundhere.

Depending on the medium of your subject knowledge journey, you may either wish to include it in your EMA document following Part 1, or submit it as an additional file. If you are submitting your Part 2 answer as a separate file, all files must be zipped and submitted through the EMA system as one submission. Guidance on this process can be foundhere.

Part 3:Academic checklist

Submit a completedAcademic checklistas part of your EMA at the end of your EMA document. This is not included in the word count. Do not include a Marking grid.
