So take a step back to those skills outlined in the image above - what learning experiences can help to develop those? Is the focus on what we hear?

Throughout the whole class reading, you can see the conversations that the teacher would be having with the children; helping them to comprehend, to find the rhyming words and to relate the ideas of the book to their own world. This book creates many learning opportunities which can be used to help target areas of the EYLF as listed below.
Story stones are another idea that can be used to develop pre reading skills. These could be used alongside a picture story book or on their own and are really beneficial in develop oral language skills, encouraging discussions and story telling.
