Facilities and Technology Needs Assessment and Presentation
This weeks assignment is a culmination of your work throughout the course. You conducted a budget analysis in Module 1, researched revenue streams in Module 2, performed a facilities audit in Module 3, and performed a technology audit in Module 4. Now, youre conducting a needs assessment and practicing communication with other school leaders.
A principal's ability to deliver clear, engaging presentations fosters trust, passion, and buy-in with critical stakeholders, propelling collective action to address the schools needs.
In this assignment, you will conduct the facilities and technology needs assessment by applying the best practices you established in your how-to guide.
Then, you will envision yourself as the principal and create a 7- to 9-minute audiovisual presentation with a webcam to communicate the needs assessment findings to the school leadership team. The presentation's purpose is for the team to understand how needs identified in the audits could be funded by specific revenue streams.
Step 1
Review course readings and your work throughout the course. Pay special attention to your how-to guide that contains evidence-based best practices for conducting a needs assessment.
List the needs revealed by the facilities and technology audits that require human or financial resources. Identify 3-5 needs per audit.
Consider how each need requires funding and/or people and time to implement them. The identified needs must come from all these categories and relate to the facilities and technology audits:
facilities;technology;furniture, instructional resources, and/or classroom supplies; and
highly qualified personnel.
Step 2
Identify how each of the needs could be funded using the budget.
Research other creative funding sources for the needs you identified. Identify 3-5 sources for nontraditional funding, such as grants, foundations, or partnerships.
Step 3
Create well-designed slides with appropriate visuals for your presentation. The content of your presentation must include:
an introduction to the facilities and technology audits;3-5 needs identified from the facilities audit;3-5 needs identified from the technology audit;potential sources of traditional funding from the budget to meet the needs;3-5 specific potential sources of non-traditional funding to meet the needs (grants, foundations, and/or partnerships); and
references.
Leave space on each slide so your webcam video will not cover important information during recording.
Select a digital tool to create your narrated presentation with supporting slides or other visuals (screen capture) and a simultaneous webcam video.See potential presentation tools in theACE Digital Tools Center.
Step 4
Compose speaking notes and practice your presentation. When you record, you should sound confident, well-informed, and engaging. Your presentation must reveal your skillful use and application of research.
Apply the best practices shown in theWriting Creative Presentation Scriptsvideo at the bottom of this page. You are not required to submit your speaking notes with your submission.
Step 5Select a Recording and Screen Capture tool from theACE Digital Tools Centerthat allows screen capture and webcam video to record your presentation. Enable both the screen capture and the webcam video features so you may demonstrate appropriate nonverbal communication skills.
Record your presentation. Then, watch it. Use the assignment rubric to ensure you have met all requirements.
Step 6Submit your audiovisual presentation using the appropriate assignment submission type (i.e., File Upload or Text Entry) for your product. ACE recommendsKalturafor submitting video assignments regardless of the recording tool.
