Learning OutcomesYou will be assessed on the following learning outcomes through this assignment, so you need to ensure that your work contains evidence of these in order to pass.

b) Propose viable responses to an identified problem informed by your field of study.

c) Demonstrate the application of subject knowledge and skills to your problem analysis and idea development

d) Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of your own self-management.

e) Evidence of responding to feedback to improve performance

Purpose of the Assignment:FDN021 trains you to undertake an investigation into a problem, there is an emphasis on how to investigate a problem, as well as how to develop a solution that addresses that problem.

The purpose of this assessment is to demonstrate that you have completed some real-world research, regardless of how well that was conducted, and that you are able to reflect honestly about what went well and what didnt, and what you would do differently if you were to do it again, for example in your final year of studies.

The assignment will also demonstrate that you can implement your plan from AS1, with appropriate changes, collect some basic information, materials or data and draw appropriate conclusions and observations from that work. You will also show that you can seek, and respond to, feedback to improve your work.

Assignment OverviewThroughout this whole module you will be required to select, plan and complete a research topic/area related to your degree subject, (although you may also link it to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) and complete a short (10 week) investigation into that research problem/question.

This could be a real-world investigation, including interviews or surveys, or an activity, like an artistic output, using primary information, data and materials. You may find that you have to use secondary information, but you will need to do something with it, i.e. manipulate data, information or materials from several sources to make your own original.

In this module, you will utilise the toolkit you have acquired through the previous modules to manage your own learning from your home degree, to undertake an investigation. You will learn about five phases of an investigation, PJ1 focuses on stages C, D, and E:

A: IDENTIFY the problem,

B: PLAN the investigation,

C: COLLECT the evidence,

D: ANALYSE the evidence,

E: PROPOSE your solution.

Assignment Tasks:You will record your weekly progress in your investigation in a padlet. You may use a different method of recording your progress and seeking feedback, like Miro or similar.

You will provide a link to your online weekly progress journal to your supervisors.

They will check that journal and provide you written feedback throughout the ten (or so) weeks of your investigation.

You will respond to that feedback regularly and show evidence of implementing the feedback.

This work will be used in your assessment submission. If there is nothing in your weekly journal, or work is not uploaded regularly, this will affect your grade.

You will be provided a template to complete and upload to the NILE submission point. The template will cover the following outputs from your ten-week investigation:

How you have responded to feedback provided to you after your presentation and in your weekly journal

A summary of what you have learnt from conducting the investigation- the results, your conclusions or the artefact you have created.

A short reflection on how the whole process contributes to your future, in your studies, in your career and/or your personal skills and experience.

Advice:

Attend classes regularly as you will then benefit from regular support and feedback.

Start your work early.

Attend the assessment workshops each week.

If you have any questions about the assignment, ask your tutor or book a tutorial.

Submission formatYou will submit the assessment template as a word document which will include your padlet or other URL.

SUBMISSIONTo submit your work, please go to the Assessment and Submission area of the FDN021 module NILE site and select the appropriate assignment submission point. It is important that you submit your work to the correct module NILE site, and that your work is submitted on time. Please ensure you have read the regulations regarding late submissions and non-submissions. Late submissions, up to 7 days, will be capped at a D-, submissions later than this will not be marked.

Academic Practice

The University of Northampton policy will apply in all cases of copying, plagiarism, collusion or any other methods by which students have obtained (or attempted to obtain) an unfair advantage. Support and guidance on assessments and academic integrity can be found from the Skills Hub: https://skillshub.northampton.ac.uk/academic-integrity/

Extensions

We all have times when we struggle and life gets in the way. If this happens, do not leave this to the last minute but speak to your lecturers and PAT before it becomes an issue. However, if you feel like you need a little more time, you can apply for an extension through the link on the module NILE site (Assessment & Submission are) and provide evidence where you are with your work and why you are struggling. Staff can grant you up to 2 weeks depending on the issue. If you need more time and have had a serious issue, you can apply for mitigating circumstances. You will need to evidence the issue and they will then decide if that is acceptable.

Marking Rubric:

This is how your work will be marked. You need to check it regularly against your work to ensure you are on the right track. When you receive your grade and feedback, there will be a slider showing what score you achieved for each of the Learning Outcomes. Check that, as well as the written feedback
