Engineering Assessment Task
Functional Analysis and Allocation (FA&A) is a key process in systems engineering design. In this group assignment you are to you are required to write a ~2000 word report that critically reviews the FA&A process. The review is to address the following:
- inputs and outputs for the FA&A process
- the staging of the FA&A process within the system life-cycle
- approaches/methods for performing both analysis and allocation
Introduction
Purpose and Objectives of the report, An outline of the report
Overview of the FA&A process (purpose, inputs, outputs, staging, supporting processes)
Approaches/methods for functional analysis
What approaches are there for Functional Analysis as per the textbook and other than those described in the textbook?
Approaches/methods for functional allocation
What approaches are there for Functional Allocation Analysis as per the textbook and other than those described in the textbook?
How the mapping between the logical/functional architecture and physical architecture is achieved? use examples such as in textbook ACME air
What approaches are there for Functional Allocation as per the textbook (e.g. mapping of requirements in RBS to sub-systems and CIs in the physical architecture?
It’d also be better if students do understand that allocation also involves allocation of both human and automation requirements such as Usability, Reliability and Maintainability. However, we’d not expect students to discuss these issues in detail as is done in the readings from Blanchard and Fabricky. Rather, just give indicative examples/ brief paragraph of significance of them and how such requirements are considered for the functional architecture, and mapped to their physical counterparts?
