Assessment information |
Trainer and Assessor Toolbox Additional information to support you in delivering training and assessment for units of competency from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package is provided in the Trainer and Assessor Toolbox. If you havent read through the Toolbox lately, take a few moments to review it now. |
Assessment details This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely handle bricklaying and blocklaying materials using manual and mechanical means. It includes sorting, stacking and protecting onsite materials. This unit applies to those who carry out preparatory bricklaying and blocklaying work on new or existing structures. It is suitable for people with basic skills and knowledge who undertake routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Assessment for this unit comprises: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->a knowledge test <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->assessor observation of you working safely and effectively to handle and prepare bricklaying and blocklaying materials for two practical tasks <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->collection of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->planning and preparation <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->risk management <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->cleaning up <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->fault reporting <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->storing and securing tools and equipment. Assessor checklists and marking guidance are provided in this Workbook. |
Co-assessment information In some cases, this unit will be assessed alongside other units from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. Your assessor will advise you if co-assessment is right for you and will talk to you about how this will take place. Keep in mind that, regardless of how and when assessment takes place, the skills and knowledge you are required to demonstrate for this unit dont change. |

Task requirements Knowledge test In this task, you will answer a range of questions relating to the safe manual and mechanical handling off bricklaying and blocklaying materials. This is an open book test that can be completed in the classroom or set as a homework activity. You must correctly complete all requirements of the knowledge test to be marked as satisfactory. Practical tasks (2) For this task, you are required to demonstrate the skills and knowledge that you have developed in this unit by preparing one bricklaying project and one blocklaying project. For each project, your assessor will observe you completing a number of tasks. You will also gather and record information about how you: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->planned and prepared for each task <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->worked safely <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->calculated the quantities of materials required for the task <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->used technology. Your assessor will give you the plans, work instructions, manufacturer instructions and specifications, materials and equipment that you will need to complete each project. You will also have access to policies and procedures, including those related to WHS and safe environmental practice. Your assessor will fill out the observation checklists in this workbook. Project 1 Bricklaying In Project 1 you must demonstrate to your assessor that you can: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->use manual techniques to position a pallet of bricks to reflect the laying sequence of the project <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->blend bricks from different pallets to achieve a balanced masonry finish <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->produce mortar using the bucket gauging technique usng a cement mixer <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->relocate a pallet of bricks using mechanical equipment <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->stack bricks and load mortar boards on a raised platform for load out <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->fit and use appropriate PPE <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->using oral communication skills to: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->understand and follow spoken instructions <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->use suitable industry and workplace language <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->ask questions to confirm instructions. Project 2 Blocklaying In Project 2 you must demonstrate to your assessor that you can: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->use manual techniques to position a pallet of blocks to reflect the laying sequence of the project <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->blend blocks from different pallets to achieve a balanced masonry finish <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->produce mortar using the bucket gauging technique using a cement mixer <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->stack blocks and loading mortar boards on a raised platform for load out <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->fit and use appropriate PPE <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->use oral communication skills to: <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->understand and follow spoken instructions <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->use suitable industry and workplace language <!-- [if !supportLists]--> - <!--[endif]-->ask questions to confirm instructions. You must successfully complete all parts of both projects to be marked as satisfactory. Evidence collection You will need to record information and gather and submit evidence about the planning you undertook for both the bricklaying and blocklaying project. You have been provided with a template for each project to complete. Tips for completing this task successfully <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->Work to the standard expected of the industry. <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->Follow the work instructions, plans, specs, manufacturers instructions and other documentation you have been given. <!-- [if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->Ensure that you work safely and follow site policies and procedures at all times.
