Assessment Task 1 – E-Poster
Description: In this assignment students are required to:
Choose a vulnerable population you either have previously been involved in the care of OR a vulnerable population you have an interest in. This should be clearly defined such as adult females in corrections or LGBQTI youth in regional secondary schools, or refugees settled in Australia from war torn countries. You may choose any population from an Australian local or national perspective. If you want to choose a global population ie refugees or an indigenous culture ensure you approach the assignment within the Australian context. This e-poster should be aimed at your nursing peers.
Within your E-Poster you need to display:
-
Describe WHY your chosen population is considered vulnerable andinclude:
Vulnerabilities and Capacity to Cope of this population.
-
Vulnerability; the susceptibility to harm, results from an interaction between the resources available to individuals and communities and the life challenges they face. A population can be deemed vulnerable due to having a high level of physical, psychological, and/or social risk. Children for example are vulnerable because they don’t possess the means to protect themselves.
-
Capacity; The combination of all the strengths, attributes and resources available within an individual, community or society to manage and reduce disaster risks and strengthen resilience. Capacity may include infrastructure, institutions, human knowledge and skills, and collective attributes such as social relationships, leadership and management.
Any social determinants of health and how they impact thispopulation.
Health inequalities (the differences in health status between population groups) such as differences in wellbeing, risk of disease, abuse/violence, healthy life expectancy, morbidity and mortality.
Health inequities (differences in health status between population groups that are socially produced, systematic in their unequal distribution across the population, avoidable and unfair) such as difference to access, affordability, income etc.
Health outcomes – explore the key health issues impacting this population ie disease, mental health issues, injuries etc (you are going to pick one of these to expand on in Assessment Task 3.).
-
Use the E-Poster Design Tips outline to help you create an interesting representation of your chosen population. You should use less text and more visual representation of information including pictures, graphs, and links to video or audio clips. Consider your use of colour/backgrounds to complement (not detract) from your design to engage the reader.
