Person-centred care Summative Scenario 2
1.0 Initial admission information/ overview Eve Potter is a 16 year old who was diagnosed with type one diabetes 4 years ago. Her mother called an ambulance when her blood sugar was elevated, she had breath which smelt of 'pear drops' and was extremely thirsty although her level of consciousness was not altered. The paramedic crew advised she should go to ED as possible indications of DKA. In ED she was diagnosed with a very mild DKA as per the BSPED guidelines, she was able to continue with SC insulin but was admitted to the childrens medical ward for monitoring and to address issues of longer term glycaemic control Social
History
Eve lives with her mother who is a single parent and is heavily involved in her diabetes care. Eve attends the local comprehensive school where she was doing well, but her mother reports that she has been failing to attend school regularly over the last 6 months and she is concerned for her future both educationally and in terms of her diabetes. She also has a younger brother who is 8 years old and has cystic fibrosis. He has been admitted to the childrens ward on multiple occasions over the last year because of this.
