These topics are based on key issues that are covered in the Unit materials across the trimester, from weeks 4- 7. A key aim of this assessment is for students to demonstrate their ability to provide a strong, coherent argument to questions regarding a series of key issues that is supported by academic research and references.
QUESTIONS
Please provide a 400-word response to any three of the following questions/statements:
- In Australia, official crime statistics provide an exact measurement of all crime types. Agree or Disagree with this statement.
- Some people often fear street crime more than they should. How likely is it for someone to be assaulted by a stranger on Australian streets?
- Crime in the home has traditionally been under-policed. In reference to a specific type of crime in the home (e.g., intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, etc.), explain why and identify one strategy that may help to reduce the prevalence of this harm in Australia, also noting its limitations.
- What is meant by 'primary deviation' and 'secondary deviation'? Does it matter how society or the criminal justice system responds to young offenders?
