Assessment Task
The case study will be relating to a patient / clinical examination of your choice but must relate to the module content. The case study must include a critical evaluation on the role of ultrasound assessing the pathology and/or abnormality, using Harvard referencing. You will be required to demonstrate application of relating theory to practice. The main focus of the case study is the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of the patient.
If a patients/clients name or that of a member of staff or NHS Trust is included in any part of your work, including appendices (if they are not available to the general public), the work will be deemed a technical fail and will receive a mark of 1%.

1. Introduction (approx. 300 words: 10% of total grade)
This section will include a brief introduction to the pathology or condition plus non identifying patient details including clinical history and presentation.
2. Patient journey and diagnosis (approx. 600 words: 30% of total grade)
This section will detail the case study patients journey, including other imaging tests or investigations that were undertaken to reach diagnosis. You will include an appropriate selection of ultrasound images demonstrating the pathology (including normal images for comparison, which must be correctly labelled and orientated.) A summarised anonymised ultrasound report must be included in this section. You would justify your provisional diagnosis by discussing potential differential diagnosis and evaluating the differences in their ultrasound appearances.
3. Discussion (approx. 900 words: 40% of total grade)
In this section you will critically evaluate the role of ultrasound played in the screening, diagnosis or management of the case study patient. The patient journey will be critically analysed in comparison to current guidelines. You will be required to make recommendations for patient management and / or further imaging
4. Referencing and resources (10% of total grade)

You need to demonstrate a logical progression of ideas and attention to detail.
The conclusion should summarise the findings of the case study without repeating information.
Your case study should use the recommended subheading. The case study should be 1.5 line spaced using size 11 Arial. Page numbering should begin with the title page. As this is an academic piece of work it is important that you write your case study in the third person. Therefore, you should avoid I, me, we etc.

Appropriate file formats must be used in the form of word document. The file you submit should be named in the following format: Your student number followed by the pathology or abnormality.
Assessment Support
On Wednesday 28th February for 40 credit there is a case study retreat day on campus to support you to construct your case study. In addition to this, individual tutorials can be booked with your module lead or personal tutor. Your personal tutor can only mark up to 10% of your work prior. A personal tutor cannot comment or give direct feedback on the assignment one week prior to the submission date.
