Scenarios:

  1. Margo is in the kitchen at midnight trying to bake a cake. She is saying that she needs to hurry as the order is due and the people will be waiting. Margo lives in an aged care facility and does not work, though used to be a professional cake maker in her younger years.

  2. Celia says that there are people in the building next door having sex in front of the window, and isn’t it disgraceful? You have a look but there is nobody in the window next door.

  3. Carey tells you that he is surprised that the man on the moon with the blue jumper would be allowed to just walk about like that. Surely, they have rules on the moon about the colours you can wear.

  4. Janice will not eat her breakfast, as she says she has eaten already, however her full meal is sitting in front of her.

  5. Sarah is in her room and has stripped her bed. She is folding the sheets. She tells you that she is surprised this was not done before; it needs to be done every time someone sleeps in the bed. Sarah used to be a cleaner in a hotel

  6. Mrs Lee is from a Chinese background. She has lost the ability to speak English, and only speaks in Chinese these days. She wanders about the garden, looking at the flowers and smiling. Her husband visits daily, keeping his wife company for many hours, as he says that she is otherwise bored and sad without him there.

  7. Brian is 55 and has early onset dementia. His grown-up daughter comes to visit on the weekends and is there when the support worker visits. She asks the support worker about how she can visit her father, while also keeping her young children, all under 5 years old, entertained and safe.

  8. Mrs Draguma has a moderate level of dementia. She wanders about the facility in circles for hours on end, speaking her native language of Italian. Her husband also lives in the facility, though he does not have dementia. He asks the support worker for ideas on activities they could do together.

  9. Mrs Green did a lot of scrap booking in her time. She dislikes the craft activities that are conducted by the aged care staff, as they are too simple and at a beginner’s level. Some staff are concerned however that giving Mrs Green equipment such as scissors and tacks and so forth might not be safe. Her daughter feels that the staff are being too overly cautious, and her mother should be allowed to do this one thing she likes
