MGT400 Change Management and Organisational Behaviour


Unit Description


This unit introduces individual behaviour, group behaviours, organizational behaviour and change management. It includes developing people skills in students by highlighting the constraints that the present- day managers and emerging executives face while managing stakeholders and managing change within teams, formal and informal groups.


The unit focusses on developing advanced communication and change management skills required for stakeholder and executive level reporting. Students will develop knowledge and skills to identify issues and analyse the situation with an eye for resolving problems with an overview of acts relating to employer relations.


It will develop them to make effective and ethical decisions to resolve people-related issues, facilitate employee development and sustain effective teams in complex and diverse global operating environments with ethical considerations.

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:


ULO 1: Discuss the development of the field of individual, group and organisational behaviour and explain the micro and macro approaches including organizational culture and describe its dimensions


ULO 2: Analyze and compare different models used to explain individual behaviour related to motivation and rewards


ULO 3: Describe and the implementation of organisational change including the processes used in developing communication and resolving conflicts


ULO 4: Explain group dynamics and demonstrate skills required for working in groups (team building)


ULO 5: Discuss the various leadership styles and the role of leaders in an effective and ethical decision making process


ULO 6: Understand the constraints that the present-day managers and emerging executives face while managing stakeholders and managing change within teams, formal and informal groups

Late Penalties

The submission date is then checked against the assessment deadline requirement. As a general rule, penalties will only apply:



  • For every one 1 day (2 to 24 hours) of submission after deadline, minus 10% of the total marks allocated to the assessment will be applied as late penalty.

  • Note the total marks is not the marks obtained by the student, but maximum marks for the

  • Example, if the submission is late by 36 hours, two days of late penalty will This means a deduction of 20 marks if the assignment total was of 100 marks.

  • For five (5) or more days of late submission, a FAIL grade is



Word Count Penalties

As a general rule, word count penalties will only apply:



  • on anything within +/- 10% of the word limit no penalty is

  • on anything more than +/- 20% of the word limit, a penalty of 5% of the total marks allocated to the assessment will be applied for every 20% (or part thereof) over the stated word limit.

  • If the student failed the assessment on initial marking, then a FAIL grade will

  • Word count includes everything in the main body of the text (including headings, citations, quotes, lists, etc.).




  • The title page, executive summary, list of references and appendices are NOT included in the word count unless it is clearly stated in the assessment instructions that there is an exception to this rule. Generally, tables are not included either, but sometimes this depends on the assignment and students need to check this with their learning facilitator.



Special Consideration / Extension

Application for Assessment Special Consideration Form is to be completed by students wishing to apply for an extension to an assessment deadline or exam due to unexpected or extenuating circumstances. Unexpected or extenuating circumstances are those which were outside the control of the student and/or for which there was no opportunity to prepare in advance.
