Essay
Write an essay on ONE of the following:
Human identities based on gender, race, and other axes of difference are socially constructed; moreover, axes of differentiation are invariably entangled with each other. This has implications for what we can say we know and how we view the world. Write an essay that critically evaluates different understandings of social construction and draw out the implications of these understandings for the way we can know the world, highlighting in particular standpoint theorizing and border thinking.
Or
Standpoint theorists fundamentally question the notion of scientific objectivity because they insist that knowledge is based on the different experiences of knowers. Write an essay that explains standpoint theorizing and provide a critique that takes into consideration diverse theories of identity, intersectionality, and decoloniality.
In writing the essay, draw on required readings for the class. You are welcome to add additional sources, including from the list of recommended readings. The essay should be about 2000 words long (+/- 200). It is due on October 30, at midnight, and needs to be submitted via Moodle.
In order to make possible anonymous grading, please do not add your name on the document but identify yourself by your student number.
Your grade will depend on the following criteria:
a. the depth of understanding of the texts;
b. the coherence of your analysis and the logical supports provided;
c. the analytical creativity of your essay;
d. correctness in terms of spelling, grammar, and citation.
