Case study
Mr John Smith, 72 year old male, was admitted to the hospital via the emergency department last evening. He has a history of productive cough for 3 days, temperature 38.3, hot and cold flushes, tired and lethargic. He is talking in phrases and has an increased work of breathing.Sputum sample was taken- green- and sent to pathology for analysis. Pathology has been attended including blood cultures. He has been seen By Dr Alpi and was admitted to the medical ward with possible pneumonia. IV antibiotics have been charted as per the medication chart below. Mr Smith has an IV cannula in his left wrist with IV fluids (sodium chloride 9%) running over 8 hours.
