Introduction

There is a strong connection between the type of neighborhood a person lives in and its impact on the health (Tao et al. 2020). Social, economic and environmental surroundings have major effects on physical and mental health of a person. The effects can be negative or positive depending on the neighborhood characteristics. The aim of this essay is to address the effects of neighborhood on the health of a person. The following point will highlight the nature of connection between neighborhood and health.

Neighborhood includes people, environment and economic factors. It can affect the mental and physical health in both negative and positive ways. It affects both adults and children in some ways (Zhou et al. 2021). Social surroundings include the behavior of other people, racism and many other factors. If the society is crime-infested or violent then the feeling of being unsafe and insecurity can affect mentally on the other hand if the society is well-settled and safe, it will give safe and positive feeling (Liu et al. 2018). Neighbors are the nearest option for asking help and support. So, strong connections with neighbors builds a sense of trust and creates a friendly, healthy and supportive environment (GU 2019).

Environment or physical environment in neighborhood can have physical and mental health effects. Society with parks, playgrounds and greenery affects the physical health benefits and given as opportunity for healthy morning walks, a place for children to play safely and elders to have walks and social interaction (Brown et al. 2018).  Whereas societies wit lack of environmental facilities faces a lot of health problems. In psychological and environmental aspects healthy and green atmosphere brings higher Quality of life (Wong 2018).

Economic factors of the place like income group can also have impacts on the health in the way of quality and stability (Green et al. 2021). People with lower income group cannot take houses in upper-localities and lives in a place where living conditions are poor like poor cooling and heating facility, no cleanliness and others can make a person sick and affects him physically and mentally but a person living in better societies have better quality of life and good mental health (Assari et al. 2018). Other aspect is stability frequent siftings can lead to negative effects on the state of mind especially of children. Individuals rating their neighborhood lower in safety or aesthetic quality, or higher in violence, had greater negative affect following stressors (Scott 2018).

Conclusion

After analyzing the points, it can be concluded that neighborhood has both positive and negative impacts on the physical and mental health. Affects depends on three factors: economic, social and environmental factors, depending on which the health is affected positively or negatively. It affects all age groups: children, adults and older people. The affects are in terms of quality, environment, society, income and stability of the person.
