Topic: Allergic asthma.
In regards to your allocated topic, prepare a fact sheet for your fellow R.Ns addressing the following questions:
1) Introduction and overview of the topic, which includes a clear definition of the disease. You will need to access any Australian databases for, who is most effected, including how many, the known risk factors (age, gender, ethnicity etc etc). [200 words]
2) Describe the pathophysiology of the disease with an in-depth discussion of the underlying cause, (aetiology). How does the pathogen/allergen, enter the body and what is the role of the immune system?. How is normal homeostatic function effected and what are the main symptoms for those effected? (i.e Asthmas impact on respiratory function for example. [500 words]
3) Describe the main pharmacological treatments for the disease, focusing on the key medications prescribed to treat those effected. How do those medications alleviate symptoms and If appropriate, are vaccinations available?. [250 words]
4) What are the key patient education considerations when nursing a patient with this disorder?. You can include lifestyle choices, diet, exercise or other methods, as long as they are supported by a reliable source. [150 words]
5) Conclusion, which should essentially be a summation of the discussion you provided throughout the paper. NO new information or in-text references should be included. [100 words]
