PURPOSE

The purpose of this assessment task is to:



  • DevelopanPortfolioevidence record.



This provides an opportunity to apply and develop mental health, theoretical and clinical knowledge and skills. The evidence record requires that you reflect on the allocated clinical scenario and further develop your skills and knowledge in how to conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and enhance medication knowledge for people diagnosed with anxiety, mood and psychotic disorders. The assessment frameworks that are described in this unit support recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care. This assessment enables you to record your learning and curate a series of artefacts that will form an Portfolio of evidence of your learning in this unit. This evidence record can be utilised for future units where mental health is emphasised and can be provided as an addition to your resume.

LEARNING OUTCOMES



  1. Review how the regulatory frameworks, standards and codes of practice and ethics, and government policies guide the safe delivery of evidence based person-centred mental health care;
  2. Articulate knowledge and skills in psychiatric assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation and documentation of care to formulate nursing management of people with selected mental health conditions across the lifespan using digital health;
  3. Appraise population health and nursing-related theories of mental distress to examine mental illness across the lifespan;
  4. Contextualise clinical reasoning and critical thinking when planning and implementing recovery oriented, trauma informed nursing care to people with anxiety, mood and psychotic disorders across the lifespan;
  5. Critical reflect on their professional and therapeutic communication using the principles of partnering with consumers and carers and taking into account Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, other cultures and people of diversity.
  6. Exhibit knowledge in pathophysiology and the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics in psychotropic medication for the pharmacotherapeutics and quality use of medicines.

This artefact will demonstrate your:



  • knowledge and use of structured assessments and the range of tools that support clinical assessment.

  • ability to conduct a comprehensive psychiatric assessment, mental state examination and risk assessment.

  • ability to accurately record observations using assessment frameworks.



Artefact 2:Psychopharmacology and Pathophysiology - medication diary

This artefact will demonstrate your understanding and provide a resource for the psychopharmacology and pathophysiology of mental disorders.

For this artifact, discuss and explore the following points: Document findings using themedication diary template.

You must:



  • UseGENERIC MEDICATION NAME(and give alternative brand names) &DRUG CLASS(include drug schedule)

  • Identify and describe the psychotropicCLASSIFICATION groups, (anti-anxiety, antidepressant, mood stabilising, and antipsychotic) and the psychiatric disorders for which they are commonly used in psychiatry.

  • ACTIONS(link to pathophysiology) &INDICATIONS



Describe the pathophysiological responses and effect of psychotropic medication for a person with a mental health disorder.



  • ADVERSE REACTIONS(most common) andINTERACTIONS(including drug interactions if any)



Identify side effects and precautions related to chosen psychotropic medication class.



  • METHODS OF ADMINISTRATION



Consider safe administration of medication, daily dosage range, route of administration and relevant legal and ethical issues.



  • NURSING CONSIDERATIONS/CONSUMER EDUCATION



What is the role of the nurse in the administration of psychotropic medications and related interventions? Consider safe medication administration; management of interactions and side effects; promoting medication adherence; consumer education; assessment and monitoring of physical and mental health; consumers and carers perspectives including the lived experience research relating to the medication.

All written assessments must align to the following academic standards:



  • use high-level quality contemporary evidence-based literature to inform the discussion and critical analysis, date of evidence within ten years;

  • use of the third person, unless specifically indicated otherwise;

  • APA 7th edition for in-text citations and reference list;

  • adherence to the word count; ten percent allowed either side of word count;

  • a 12 size font in either Arial, Times New Roman or Calibri;

  • 5 line spacing; and submitted using an MS word document only.

  • An accurate word count that includes in-text citations, but excludes the reference section at the end of the essay
