Assessment overview This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge related to inspecting a building to determine its fire protection compliance. The inspection must be conducted in a Class 1 and 10 building.

For this assessment, the Candidate will be assessed on the completion of a Project Assessment that includes four parts in which the Candidate must:

identify the NCC and other legislative requirements for passive fire control elements required for the building

identify the NCC and other legislative requirements for active fire control elements required for the building

determine the level of fire resistance required for the construction of the building

check the building for compliance with the criteria identified above.

For this task you will download the Project Assessment document from MyLearning, complete each task and attach any evidence as required.

You will complete practical tasks that may require access to specific documentation and a workplace or a simulated construction environment. Make sure you use industry terminology when completing their project.

You will be using any work, safety, standards, etc. documents required for each task and adjustments could be made according to the workplace setting. Reasonable adjustments can be made including extending the period of time for completing each task/answering questions. Reasonable adjustments will also be considered for people with different abilities and needs without affecting the quality of the evidence collected for each and any of the tasks. Assessors may need to identify at the start of the course where each candidate will be completing the practical assessments. Further assistance may include pre-arranged access to specific support such as Literacy and Numeracy support.

For this assessment, you have available a set of documents or templates that you may use/adapt to create your documents/evidence to support the completion of the assessment project. These are located in the Appendix. Assessors can provide any other relevant templates that may assist you in completing the tasks. You will be required to complete documentation during the assessment. Any documents that cannot be inserted in the Assessment document should be submitted as a separate document.

Where further evidence is needed and cannot be inserted in the Assessment document, please make sure you upload the files in the Assessment section in MyLearning ensuring they are correctly labelled. It is essential that you label the documents using the following code: Candidate Name Surname_Assessment number_document type_Group (e.g. John Builder_AT3_Poster_MonDipB&C)

When completing assessment in the workplace, you must have completed an on-site safety induction.

The assessment will not proceed if for any reason it is not safe to do so. You must advise the candidate of the reason for suspending the assessment, and what safety action should be taken. Advise the candidate of revised arrangements for the assessment when it is safe to do so.

There is a zero tolerance for plagiarism, cheating and collusion. Candidates will be expected to make a declaration that all work is their own prior to submission. Refer to the Training and Assessment Policy for further information.

Task(s) to be assessed To complete the assessment satisfactory, the candidate must complete the following tasks:

Part 1: Describe the building

Part 2: NCC Fire prevention, resistance and control requirements

Part 3: Building inspection

Part 4: Confirming compliance

To complete this assessment the candidates will need to answer any additional questions that the assessor may decide to use that are meant to support the candidate`s completion of the assessment. The assessor will record these questions and make notes on your answers.

Each of these parts will be individually assessed as Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory.

Location This assessment will be conducted flexibly in the workplace or a close simulation using realistic workplace conditions and standards, materials, activities, responsibilities, procedures, safety requirements and environmental considerations.

Time allowed The time allowed for this task will be determined by the assessor. As a guide this assessment task should take approximately 4 weeks.
