Context

For young people, the post schooling transition is an important period of life and can significantly influence the potential trajectory they experience. The type of education, career pathways and relationships young people build can be supported by various innovations that occur in a school setting. Innovations can be used to advocate, mediate, enable respectful relationships and increase the likelihood of a successful post-schooling transition for the Year 12 cohort, resulting in a healthier future. At Brisbane State High School various innovations are included with the school program to ensure students have the life skills in order to succeed after school. As a result 79% of students go on to tertiary education, 3% study a VET qualification, 1% into an apprenticeship, 9% into part time work, 3% into full time work and 5% seek work (Next step Post-School Destinations Survey, 2020).

Task

You are required to investigate and evaluate two implemented innovations that target the development of respectful relationships as a general resistance resource in the post-schooling transition. You must select the most relevant innovation for your Year 12 cohort, and develop an action strategy that strengthens diffusion and increases the likelihood of a successful post-schooling transition. Your response will be presented as an analytical exposition.

To complete this task you must:

  • use the life course perspective to complete a local context analysis and a needs assessment for your Year 12 BSHS cohort to:
    • critique a range of contextual information to distinguish the most significant determinants that influence the post-schooling transition of your Year 12 BSHS cohort
    • analyse and interpret primary data, secondary data, trends, barriers and enablers related to the post-schooling transition of your Year 12 BSHS cohort
    • analyse the relationship between existing personal, social and community resources to draw conclusions about the significance for the post-schooling transition of your Year 12 BSHS cohort
  • synthesize information about the characteristics of two different innovations that enable the development of respectful relationships in the post-schooling transition
  • evaluate the impact of the innovations on the development of respectful relationships in the post-schooling transition using two diffusion process variables and two steps of RE-AIM
  • synthesize information to develop an action strategy that will strengthen diffusion of the most relevant innovation for the education, work or family trajectories of your Year 12 BSHS cohort by mediating, advocating or enabling innovation uptake
  • use the diffusion of innovation model to evaluate and reflect on the likely impact and uptake of the innovation selected for the diffusion action strategy to mediate, advocate or enable the development of respectful relationships in the postschooling transition for your Year 12 BSHS cohort
