Question 1: What does ‘Residential aged care sector’ mean?

Question 3: What is positive ageing and what models of service delivery contribute to ‘positive ageing’?

• Social and physical enablers and disablers can have an impact on the quality of life of the older person. It is important that you work with the older person to identify these.
• Give three examples of disablers that may be identified by you or the older person.
• Indicate the impact of social devaluation on an individual’s quality of life.
• What are some empowerment strategies that you could employ to re-able the older person and increase their level of engagement and independence? Identify and discuss at least three.

• Name at least four strategies that you might encourage an older person to adopt to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
   

Question 6:

• Empowering an older person to share the responsibility of their own support by expressing their needs and preferences can have a positive impact on their health and quality of life.
• Explain the above statement in your own words and give examples of the impact that empowerment can have on an older person’s life.
• What are some areas in which an older person may be able to indicate their personal preferences and needs?

• Providing care for an older person comes with both responsibilities and limitations. Outline at least three boundaries that might affect your work.

• Stereotypes and myths may have a negative impact on the life of an older person.
• List five stereotypes or myths associated with older people.
• For three of these, explain how they might lead to discrimination

• Explain how your own attitudes may influence your work with older people.

Question 10:

• Give an example of at least one occasion where an older person’s social, cultural or spiritual differences may affect your work, and explain how you would show respect for these differences.
