Instructions to Student General Instructions

You will conduct a psychological research investigation based on a social psychology claim. Select one (1) social psychology claim, from the list below and develop a research question (hypothesis) to investigate cause and effect relationships. You will analyse data to test the validity of the research question (hypothesis). Your response will be limited to 1500 words and be presented as an Empirical Essay.

You will be required to reference within the research investigation and create an APA 7th edition Reference List. You must use a minimum of six (6) sources to construct your response. Your written communication and use of psychological terminology will also be assessed (refer to marking criteria).

Information/ materials required:

Use psychological research from the textbooks, PowerPoint presentations and access to the TQ Library databases. You may also wish to join the Queensland State Library to be able access additional databases.

Assessment Criteria:

To achieve a satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your ability to demonstrate the following key skills/tasks/knowledge to an acceptable industry standard. See the attached Assessment Marking Criteria and Graded Assessment Matrix.

Number of Attempts:

You will receive up to two (2) attempts at this assessment task. Should your 1st attempt be unsatisfactory (U), your teacher will provide feedback and discuss the relevant sections / questions with you and will arrange a due date for the submission of your 2nd attempt. If your 2nd submission is unsatisfactory (U), or you fail to submit a 2nd attempt, you will receive an overall unsatisfactory result for this assessment task. Only one re-assessment attempt may be granted for each assessment task.

Instructions for the Assessor The Assessment Task Instruction Sheet and Assessment Marking Criteria available on the Connect Unit Offering from Week 1.

Students will select a claim to form the basis of the Research Investigation from the list provided by the teacher.

The teacher will go through the structure of the empirical essay and the requirements of the task using a model.

Students will need internet access to access Connect and other research sites.

The written element of this task will be prepared and planned in students own time but content will be covered during content sessions as per the Unit Study Guide

Students must use credible and appropriate research sources to complete the assessment task. These sources include: the recommended class textbooks, PowerPoint presentations on Connect, similar level psychology textbooks and websites such as Simply Psychology.

To complete the referencing, students must use the TQ APA 7th edition Referencing Guide.

Students must include all of the pieces listed in Submission details to demonstrate competence.

Support is available as required. Session time allocated for drafting and conferencing and students have access to Studiosity (accessed through Connect) if they wish to use it.

Level of assistance - Students may receive assistance from the teacher as part of the drafting and conferencing process but they must demonstrate their understanding of the concepts in the final submission.
