This stage 4 unit of work is directed at a Year 8 Science class for a selective girls high school with a small proportion of EAL/D students.
Students are required to create an understanding of the planet Earth and what lies beneath its surface. Through this unit of work, students will investigate the geological clues and evidence that explains the evolution of Earth and discover the details of the structure of the Earth. The students also learn to examine the properties of rock, minerals and fossils throughout the progression of this unit.
Prior Learning
According to the NESA syllabus, students are expected to understand the basic knowledge on how the Earths surface has evolved over time due to natural phenomena and acknowledgement of certain terms from stages 2 and 3. This prior knowledge would be analysed during the start of the course using pre-assessment methods in order to develop the lesson planning according to the requirements of the class.
