Aim

This subject provides the theoretical background knowledge for Professional Practice 3. It introduces students to the fundamental principles of perioperative nursing care in supporting clients undergoing surgical interventions incorporating the related pathophysiology and pharmacology. The focus of case history reviews will be on nursing care of surgical interventions relating to the gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and reproductive systems, and injury prevention and controls, in particular. The National Health Priority Areas of Injury Prevention and Control, arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, and cancer control will be addressed.

  5. explain the safe and effective use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions with a person experiencing an alteration in health
  6. discuss the Australian National Health Priority Areas as they relate to person-centred care.

Minimum requirements to pass this subject of study

To achieve a pass in this subject of study, youmustdo the following:

  • achieve at least 50% when all assignment marks are totalled
  • complete and submit all assignment tasks at the required time and the required academic standard.
