In doing these, Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory and its systems such will used to determine the impacts social ecological transformations have had on Yasmin and her family as they moved to Australia from Syria which involved in implementing some resilient models for Yasmin and her family to live their best lives in the Australians society cultures.
Adversity:
An adversity is a situations or difficulties that impact on an individual lifes which can be both physical and psychological. This is also a state where people find themselves in a circumstance that is challenging for their lives which impact on the growth of the children when raised in the family that facing so many adversities (McEwen & McEwen 2018). Yasmins brother death during the ward has affected Yasmins family psychological well-being because as a parent losing child can be very difficult which increase their mental discomfort while Yasmin psychological development will be affected as her age fall in adolescence which is in the stage of developing critical thinking and judgement (Stikkelbroek et al 2016). Moreover, migrating to Australia resulted into challenges for Yasmins family because as they have different culture different from Australian cultures, which will lead to difficulty settling and adjusting within the Australia society. This show that Yasmin cultural development will not be as effective in Australia as it would have been in Syria because they will not imply their cultural practices accordingly (Rindfleisch 2018). Moreover, migrating newly to Australia is issues face in the Yasmins family because they do not speak English which impact on their abilities to socialised. This is adversity post threat to Yasmin social abilities because connecting to the society required communication which Yasmin has difficulty with (Schick et al 2016). In addition, Yasmins father losing his job is an adversity because the family will have difficulty getting their daily need and taking care of their daughter which will lead Yasmins father distress thinking too much about Yasmin well-being Synard & Gazzola 2018.
Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory is a conceptual based on the environment in which child is grow and this interfere with the development of the child which can arise as the child's physical and cognitive structures grow and mature. This theory was fundamentally developed in order to determine the influence environment have on child growth which applied understanding of its systems such as microsystem, mesosystem, ecosystem, macrosystem and the chronosystem. In Yasmin case, these impacts can be measured by applying Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory and the 5 systems because the case study shows that the ward and changing country resulted in the adversities Yasmins family faced (Paat, 2013).
The death of Yasmin s brother and the migration to Australia are considered as a macrosystem of Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory because macrosystem differentiate the basic element that do not impact on the individual life specifically but the generally which include the values and sociocultural and can determine the pattern of structures and activities that occur at a particular level. Giving the circumstances living far away from the Syrian community, have an impact on the family cultural practices and values because they have become excluded from the community (Vlez-Agosto et al 2017).
Microsystem is a Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory that consist of the structures in which a child has direct contact, which involved the interaction with environment. Yasmins dad losing his job, directly impact on Yasmin because they might not afford all Yasmin needs due to the hardship which example could be link from the case study in terms of proving extra money for her Art class (Shin et al 2021). Addition, the family isolation from the community influence Yasmin ability to understand herself and learn to thrive through difficulty which will make her vulnerable to the society. Community or neighbourhoods also provide security and protection for a child to see themselves as a member of the society and understand their culture, but Yasmin is lacking this intervention that will help her overcome the challenges face in her new sociological environment (Scrine et al 2020).
However, research shown that families play a vital role in child development especially in developing a good personality and providing security for the child and this is the reason Yasmins father becoming controlling and restricting her association with friend because they live in different country which have different cultural aspect. That means Yasmins father being more controlling is due to him wanting Yasmin to develop a good personality (Oyarzn Gmez et al 2019). Furthermore, having difficulties with language will affect Yasmin ability to socialised because she cannot express her feeling which will increase her constant mental distress. This means the language difficulty would limit Yasmin abilities to adopt the Australians society system (Schick et al 2016). In addition, children develop and learn from their communities such as self-esteems, cultural awareness and values but in Yasmin case, they are isolated from the Syrian community which leave Yasmin vulnerable to knowing her cultural and values that make up their community (Rockers et al 2016). Additionally, children perceived depression, sadness due to losing their sibling while Yasmin lost her brother to an explosion in Syria. This will create more anxieties and low self-esteems for Yasmin (Hank, K 2021). While according to Vygotskys developmental theory, Children who experience anxiety cognitive development become poor compared to those children with less anxiety and depression. Therefore, based Vygotsky, Yasmin cognitive development has been impacted due to the adversities faced in this age (Bucci et al 2018).
Vygotskys sociocultural developmental theory is based on interaction between children and their communities which believe that culture is an essential part of child development. Based on this theory, Yasmin falls in an adolescence group which is from age of 10-19 years old, and the social intervention is very important to their cognitive development which refer to the state when children process information. At this point, communities participation become very important as the children learn about their cultural values and believe. Therefore, Yasmin lives in a country where her language is barely spoken and her family is isolated from the community, this indicate that Yasmin will suffer a proper cognitive development Vygotskys sociocultural developmental theory (Eun 2008). This show that Yasmin is at risk of not fully developing her cultural concepts as they are living outside of their community.
Vulnerabilities:
Vulnerability is the concept of an individual being disadvantage at setting aspect of their lives which lead to society taking advantages of their willingness to open to others. This includes physical, emotional, social, economic and environmental (Clark 2021). One of the aspects of Yasmin case that could make vulnerable is her sociocultural development as she not connected to their based on her family being far away from other Syrian families and language barrier, she is facing will make subject to an abuse because people will take an advantage and it could also make her vulnerable when she with her friends which lead to bullying her. However, these vulnerabilities can be link to Vygotskys sociocultural developmental theory because Vygotsky believed that children cognitive developments influence by their social intervention within their social environment (Lantolf & Xi 2019). Therefore, migrating to Australia which changing ecological environment will make Yasmin psychologically vulnerable because it will increase her depression level due to separating from the tradition, and familiar customer whereas she had to go through adjusting within different cultures which Bronfenbrenner based his ecological systems theory on the impact environment and values on the child development (Drakenberg & Malmgren 2013).
PROTECTIVE ENVIRONMENTS / PROTECTIVE FACTORS:
Protective Factors are the process of acting in order the minimaxed negatives influence such as mental and health problems which involved helping people struggling to overcome these adversities. Implementing protective factors help in developing resilience strategies which promote the abilities to resist adversities faced (Grych et al 2020). Moreover, Ecological Factors will be applied due to Yasmins family due to lots of job which impact on Yasmins father psychological well-being. Other implications of protective factors could be moving nearby the other Syrian family which could help reduce his depression level because he will be associating with community members which could positively impact on his depression level. Also getting Yasmins father involved in behaviours counselling programs which will help him build positive behaviours toward his family and job networks could reduce his vulnerability of losing his job (Gonzales et al 2019). Consequently, these protective factors will improvise Yasmin and her family the capacities to establish their resiliencies.
However, moving in the neighbourhood as the other Syrian family will minimax Yasmin cultural disadvantages because she will learn by interacting with other Syrian children and she will get social support that will help her cognitive development develop the abilities of building a relationship. Therefore, these protective factors will have an impact on Yasmin life as her resilience level will increase (Burgos et al 2016). In addition, other protective factors that already in place are Yasmins father calling the counsellor to monitor her progress of adjusting to the new life, while walking Yasmin to the school and walk her back home, is to make her safe and deplete loneliness as she does not have a brother to go to school with.
Therefore, parental relationship will help Yasmin construct her resilience abilities because she feels valuable in the society which will positively impact on building her self-confident. This is not just the relationship with her parents but also, observed the way in which they respond to difficult times, through which she will also learn the same strategies (Chowbey & Barley 2022). Furthermore, protective factor such as changing the residential environment to closer to other Syrian families, will influence Yasmin abilities to adapt any cultural challenges that she will come across because the cultural aspects she will see the community applying to resolve issues, she will incorporate those in her daily life in order to challenge any cultural adversities (Hendrick & Young 2013). Therefore, implementing these protective factors will help Yasmin and family to development different resilience strategies based on the types of adversities.
RESILIENCE THEORY / MODELS OF RESILIENCE:
Resilience is the process in which individual or communities develop strategies of responding to adversities which involved families and socioecological. This is when people grow the capacity of adapting life course changes which can be known as an adaptive system. However, this theory can also as a sustainability for recovering from the hardships and served as the resources that will be used in dealing with the difficulties. This indicate that the core aspect of resilience theory is the procedure of enduring adversities so that individual can live a normal live (Mebarki 2017).
Moreover, the 2 different practice models of resilience that will be applied in order to help Yasmin and her family, will be social support and that of the protective model. Social support model which includes family, communities and friends. Furthermore, Social Supports mostly from families and cultural aspects that communities members help in regulating the stress and depression in individuals (Suwinyattichaiporn & Johnson 2020). This practice will be applied in creating community event such as once a month with Yasmin and other children gathering in a hall while some elderly from the community gives them some educations around cultural adversities. The activity will consist of educated member of the community both culturally and academically that will promote awareness based on the types of cultural misfortunes that come in the lifes course (Agani et al 2010). In addition, with Yasmins family isolated from the rest of the Syrian family, getting them participating within the social support which will help the family to build their abilities to fight depression and trauma. Moreover, this method of resilience idealised Vygotskys sociocultural developmental theory which conceptualised families, culture and communities to have an essential impact on the growth of children. Especially in the Zones of Proximal Development, which the stage a child can do without a support and what they can do with support. This indicates that implementing the social support resilience model will positively influence Yasmin Zone of Proximal Development, as well as the rest of the family in helping them get over the death of their son and have a happy life (Francis 2019).
Another resilience practices that Yasmin family could participate would be the family resilience practices. Which will be implemented in helping Yasmin and her family as would involves, a fortnightly family dinner where Yasmins parents will engage in conversation with her about how she feels with things in a new country and how is she overcoming the death of her brother. This will boost her self-esteem abilities which would heavily increase Yasmin confident level to make decision in life and to feel free to talk to her parents. Furthermore, this strategy will enforce the family relationship which promote dealing with difficulties and finding solutions to problems. According to Venetis et al (2020), this practice was built on trust and understanding within families, and this will allow Yasmin family to better support her in developing strategies to deal with hardships and Yasmin would learn from her parents as she will observe them in dealing with adversities.
Protective model and how that will help Yasmin and her family build their resilience
In addition, protective model is use in order to predict the future outcomes meaning that it is used to tell how the future is going to be based on the current saturation. It also helps prevent the saturation form going behand control, and it encourage family with healthy positive outcomes and limit the possible chances of negative outcomes for any saturation (Jackson 2016). In relating this protective model to the case of Yasmin, it was understood that she has been going through a lot from the death of her brother to moving to a new country, to having her father becoming more controlling and not letting her talk to her friends outside of school. This have made Yasmin does not have any social ability to community with friends and also not to take part in activities that are not with in the school. With this protective model it is use in this case to encourage Yasmin and her family that it is okey to speak out about their grief and also to let Yasmin have a fund time with her friends outside of school, as it helps her become confidence and also build a social relationship with her friends. As resilience is part of the process of adapting to a difficult challenge or life experiences it is use alone with the proactive model to enable Yasmin and her family to adapt to new country and to learn to talk about things as a family and associate with other in order to build some social relationship.
Protective model/factors are very important in this case that is because it provide clues for designing more effective social programs. These social programs will be useful for Yasmin and her family as this model will minimise the effect of any negative outcome to happened in the future and encourage them to positive outcomes (Zimmerman 2013). Moreover, the risk-protective models also indicated that the promotive factors can therefore operate to moderate or reduce the association between risks and negative outcomes. Which can also be relate Yasmin and her family. Therefore, Protective models operate to enhance the effects of either promotive factor alone for predicting an outcome or to tested using interaction effects in regression or multi-group analysis in structural equation modelling (Zimmerman 2013).

Assessment 2 Yasmin Case Study

Yasmin is 13 years old. She grew up in Syria and migrated to Australia 3 years ago. Yasmin had a very happy childhood in Syria. She had one brother only, they were very close like friends. They both enjoyed the art subject at school and did many art projects together. However, things changed when the war started. Yasmins brother was killed in an explosion when he was walking back home from school. His death was a shock for everyone, but they never talked about it as a family. Later that year, her family migrated to Australia.
Initially, Yasmin wasnt happy about the move, she missed her friends and found language very difficult. But things are different now, Yasmin has two very close friends and she is doing well in school. However, the situation at home isnt very good because her dad is increasingly becoming more controlling. He doesnt allow her to see her friends or talk to them outside school. Also, he walks her to and from school every day which is very embarrassing for her.
Her parents are well known in her school, they come to all the school events and activities to support Yasmin. They also make regular contact with the school counsellor to make sure that Yasmin is well supported. Yasmin likes the school counsellor and she makes regular appointments with her. The counsellor informed Yasmin about new art classes starting in the local library. The local library is not very close, and she would have to use the bus. Also, the classes are not free and there is no concession or discount. Yasmin talked to her mum about this opportunity.
Yasmins relationship with her mum is very good, her mum is very supportive of her, but she told her that they unfortunately cannot afford the extra art classes at the local library because her dad has recently lost his job. Yasmins family is a bit isolated because they live far from other Syrian families and they are not very well connected to their neighbours. They have been saving money to buy a car which should make things easier.
