How to get your sample from the provided dataset

Open the data file provided on the Blackboard in the folder for this assessment. Your device must have SPSS.

From Transform select Random Number Generators (as below):

Select or click on Set Active Generator and Set Starting Point & click OK

From Data choose Select Cases:

Click Random sample of Cases and click & then Sample (Sample button is greyed out until you select Random sample of cases)

Select Exactly and type 602 in the first and 4000 in the second box (as below) & click Continue. (Both boxes are greyed out till you select Exactly).

Now you will see next to Sample that your selection contains the required number of cases (602).

Click Copy selected cases to a new dataset (as below) and give it a name (No spaces allowed in the name).

Once you confirm by scrolling down you have the correct number of cases from File choose Save as to save it wherever you want. I suggest you run frequencies to confirm you have 602 cases and no missing values.

Now you are ready to start working on your assessment. Remember, you will need to have SPSS on the device to open the saved data file.
