Aim
Module 1 introduced the concepts of the social and biomedical models of health and how these are reflected in health care. This assessment task will assess your understanding of these models of health and health care and allow you to evaluate both models within the primary health care context. You then need to consider how your understanding of these models will inform your future nursing practice.
Task description
There are 2 interviews provided where people discuss their experiences in the Australian healthcare system in relation to a similar health issue. Both experiences occur in a primary health care context. You will need to view both interviews to complete this assessment task. The videos are included below.
There are 2 focus areas for the case study:
Identify the healthcare interventions received by each person being interviewed. Explain which model of health (biomedical/social) the intervention represents and why.
Consider and compare the positive and negative aspects of the care each person receives. Explain how this understanding will influence your future nursing practice.
