Assignment 3: Prepare a PSA
Purpose
Once you have worked through the material in Module 5 you need to complete and submit Assignment #3.
Assignment #3 will test your understanding of how to prepare an Audio PSA and a Video PSA script.
Grading
20% of your final grade
Instructions
You will produce:
A pre-produced PSA script and audio file
A video PSA script and video file
PSA
1. Use your client you have chosen for this semester.
2. Arrange to interview a spokesperson for that organization.
3. Ask the person for a suitable topic that you can use to practise writing a PSA/commercial. Its good if a topic is available for which you can prepare materials that will be used, but it is not required for your grade.
4. If your client is a non-profit group you will no doubt have many topics to choose from. If your client is a for-profit company you will be allowed to team them up with a non-profit. For example, if your client is a restaurant, you may invent an event that raises money for a charity: During the month of March, XYZ Restaurant is pleased to donate $5.00 from every entre ordered to the March of Dimes This way you can turn it into a true PSA instead of a commercial.
5. Both of the PSAs will be on the same topic, just in different formats.
6. Use the various script formats in Module 5.
7. Upload the two scripts to the Assignment 3 tab on the Assignments page.
Marking criteria
The scripts contain the appropriate word count for a 30-second PSA.
Follows the various PSA formats given in the module.
Marks will be deducted for each spelling, grammar and punctuation error.
Out of 100 marks:
25 a pre-produced PSA audio script that follows format
25 a pre-produced PSA audio file
looking for clean audio, 29 to 30 sec long
25 a Video PSA script that follows format
25 a Video PSA video file
looking for clean audio video/stills 29 to 30 long
