Assignment Task

  • Assignment Tasks
  • Write a two-page critique on the article given below and on the third page, propose a follow-up study that would advance the research, building on the findings from the article. You will develop your own research question, hypothesis, and investigation that could be conducted in the future.
  • Your paper must be typed in Times New Roman 12-pt font, with double line spacing, 2 cm margins all around, and page numbers. Separate your writing into paragraphs, either indenting the first line of each paragraph or leaving a blank line between paragraphs.
  • I will refer to the scientific paper to check the original data and your interpretations, as well as to look for any plagiarism. You must write in your own words. Plagiarism will be very easy for me to spot and confirm.
  • This indented paragraph is written with double-spaced lines as an example. You must write your paper double-spaced. For comparison, the rest of this handout is single-spaced. In Word, set the line spacing in the Format Paragraph options.
  • You must include the following sections.
Title page: a descriptive title for your article critique (not "Article Critique"), your name and student information, and course details.
Three-page critique, The first two pages should include:
    Introduction:
Background on why the topic is important and how this paper builds on previous work (i.e., the authors' motivation for conducting the research).
Statement of the research question or objectives.
Summary of methods (concise, clear, not missing anything important)
Results and conclusions (includes all important results without excessive detail; refers to specific figures and tables; main conclusions are all stated clearly)
Analysis, opinion (insightful, balanced, avoids making trivial criticisms)
Writing (concise, clear, grammatically correct, good structure)
where the third page is devoted to your proposed follow-up research. Don't propose simply to do more of the same project (e.g., sample for a longer time, use more species, etc.) or merely to repeat the study with an improved design, but pose a new research question that is raised by the results in the article. You must clearly state the hypothesis to be tested and a design for the investigation (research methods and the types of data to be collected). Be as specific as you can, describing the design for an experiment or field sampling, the measurements that would be made, and how conclusions would be drawn from the results.Reference list (on a separate page). Only one reference is required (the article you critiqued). Example format:Also, be sure to cite your article properly in the sentences of your critique (by first author's surname and year in parentheses).
