Pigmented acne scarring

Doris is a 26-year female who is seeing you for the first time complaining of recurring breakouts across the chin and cheeks and resulting pigmented scarring of previous lesions.

History

C/O of acne as teenager which cleared up.

In early twenties acne reoccurred resulting in atrophic and pigmented scarring.

Finds the lesions itchy and scratches them for relief, at times draws blood.

Phyco-social

Lives by herself in social housing and works part time in a factory making batteries.

Not very social with a few friends that she occasionally sees.

Diagnosed at 23 years with Bi-Polar Disorder and recently with early menopause.

Consultation

Skin has apparent adequate moisture values yet also appears lipid dry.

Appears to be a light Fitzpatrick 4

Medications

Lithicarb (Lithium carbonate) 250 mg

Home care

Doris uses whatever is on sale and the local supermarket which has a vast range of products it seems.

Does use a foaming cleanser, a skin degreaser toner and a moisturiser for mature skin. Doris thinks a heavy cream-based moisturiser suits her skin better. Scrubs her skin weekly or when she remembers with an apricot shell scrub due to its nice smell.
