ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTION:
In this project, you will design and implement an online database-driven website to develop a web information system that enables carpooling among individuals who share a similar route to and from work or school.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Carpooling is becoming an increasingly popular and environmentally friendly way to commute. By sharing a ride with others, individuals can save money on gas, reduce traffic congestion, and decrease their carbon footprint.
Your task is to design and develop a web information system that facilitates carpooling among individuals who share a similar route to and from work or school.
Functional Requirements:
The web information system should include the following functionalities:
- User Registration: Users should be able to register on the website by providing their name, email address, and password.
- Profile Creation: Once users have registered, they should be able to create a profile that includes their pickup, and the drop-off location, and their preferred carpooling schedule.
- Ride Search: Users should be able to search for rides that match their preferred route (from a location to another destination) and schedule. The system should display a list of potential matches, including the driver's name, car type/model, and pickup and drop-off locations.
- Ride Posting: Users should be able to post a ride that they are offering, including the pickup and drop-off locations and the time of departure and arrival.
- Ride Confirmation: Users should be able to confirm or reject ride requests from other users. Once a ride is confirmed, both the driver and the passenger should be able to see the ride details in the application.
Admin Panel: The website should have an admin panel that allows the site owner to manage user accounts, ride postings, and other aspects of the system.
Technical Requirements
- The web information system can be built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
- The system should use a database such as MySQL database to store user information, ride postings, and ride requests.
- The website should be responsive, mobile-friendly, and easy to use.
Data Specifications
The web information system should use appropriate tables required in the database. The ER diagram should be presented in the report.
