The case study scenario
Here is the scenario for your assignment:
Imagine you are working in a multidisciplinary General Practice Clinic in an outer metropolitan area Brisbane. Approximately 6% of people in the community were born in Bhutan and have migrated to Australia. Of those aged 15 years and over, 34% have Year 10 or below as their highest level of educational attainment and 30% speak English as their second language.
Sonam is a 38 years old Bhutanese woman who arrived in the community quite recently and doesnt know many people. She is married and has 2 children aged 8 years and 6 years. Both children attend the local primary school. Sonam has visited the General Practice Clinic because she has not been feeling well. She has not been to the Clinic before and you are obtaining a general health history from her. English is not Sonams first language but she is reasonably comfortable at conversing in plain English. During the discussion you ask Sonam about her familys health. She says that her childrens health is good. However, when asked about vaccinations she tells you that, although she has had a Flu vaccination, they have not been vaccinated. When you ask her about this, she says that she doesnt want her children to have Flu vaccination because her kids are OK and shes not sure about them getting this medicine.
