You and your team identified some risks during the first week of the project, such as key team members leaving the university, users being uncooperative, lack of both hardware and software information, data loss and software incompatibility.

  1. Plot the five risks on a probability/impact matrix and also assign a numeric value for both the probability and impact of each risk. Use a scale of 1 to 10 to justify the values, with 1 representing the lowest values. (7)
  2. Develop three types of response strategy for the five risks, including specific tasks required to implement the strategies. (7)

Acquiring a team is an important process in project human resource management. One of the techniques used in acquiring a team is resource leveling.

  1. Explain resource leveling.
  2. Use simple diagrams to do a resource leveling for the following project. Suppose A needs 20 workers, B needs 20 workers and C needs 40 workers.

An effective communication is crucial to project success. Two of the common communication tools are meeting and email. Suggest how to conduct effective meetings and use effective emails. (7+7=14)

Section II Case Study. 30 marks

Tony Prince and his team are working on the Recreation and Wellness Intranet Project. Their schedule and cost goals are to complete the project in 12 months for around $1m. The cost baseline is shown in the following Excel sheet. By the end of 6 th month, they want to know the cost performance using the EVM method. They have worked out the AC and EV for each month. They need to work out the key EVM indices to tell the actual project performance. You are asked to do the analysis and tell the team how well the project performs.

  1. Work out the EVM indices CV, SV, CPI, SPI, EAC, and estimated time to complete. (10)
  2. Based on the data in B19:G24, use a simple cost vs time graph to show the AC, EV, PV curves and forecast the EAC. (10)
  3. Explain your results and tell the team how well the project cost performs. (10)
