Identifying social and cultural issues impacting on clients in Australian society
Analysing the impacts of social and cultural factors on clients
Monitoring the impact of social and cultural factors on community work and services provided to clients.

Instructions for this assessment This is a written assessment that assesses your knowledge of the unit.
This assessment is in three (3) parts:
Part 1: Short answer questions
Part 2: Case study and questions
Part 3: Extended response

Submission instructions On completion of this assessment, you are required to submit via MS Teams to your Teacher/Assessor for marking.
Ensure you have included your name at the bottom of each document you submit.
It is important that you keep a copy of all electronic and hardcopy assessments submitted to TAFE and complete the assessment declaration when submitting the assessment.
What do I need to do to achieve a satisfactory result? To achieve a satisfactory result for this assessment all questions must be answered correctly.
If a resit is required to achieve a satisfactory result it will be conducted at an agreed time after a suitable revision period.
What do I need to provide? TAFE NSW student account username and password. If you do not know your username and password, contact your campus or service centre on 131601.

Supervision This is an unsupervised, take-home assessment. Your Teacher/Assessor may ask for additional evidence to verify the authenticity of your submission and confirm that the assessment task was completed by you.
You may access your referenced text, learning notes and other resources.
Assessment feedback, review or appeals In accordance with the TAFE NSW policy Manage Assessment Appeals, all students have the right to appeal an assessment decision in relation to how the assessment was conducted and the outcome of the assessment. Appeals must be lodged within 14 working days of the formal notification of the result of the assessment.
If you would like to request a review of your results or if you have any concerns about your results, contact your Teacher/Assessor or Head Teacher. If they are unavailable, contact the Student Administration Officer.

Discuss the purpose of the three (3) social and/or cultural institutions in Australian society from a sociological perspective (based on your question 1 response). (50 words)
Identify and describe the functions of the three tiers of the Australian political system. (50 words)
Discuss two (2) theoretical perspectives of the Australian political and/or economic systems relevant to Australian society. (50 words)
Describe three (3) factors that influence decision making by the Australian government on social policy. (50 words)
Explain how policy decisions impact on the community services sector? Provide one (1) example. (60 words)
What are the possible consequences of unemployment on society as a whole? Discuss three (3) examples. (50 words)
Give two (2) examples of stereotypes that apply to people in the community. (20 words)
Discuss how these stereotypes have developed? (50 words)
Describe two (2) examples of age-related stereotypes. (30 words)

Read the case study and answer all questions.
Graeme Johnston is a 24-year-old male who lives with his partner Stacy, aged 24, and their two children, Rebecca aged 9 and Simon aged 4. Graeme was retrenched from his job two years ago and has not been successful in finding another position. Graeme and Stacy rent their house from Department of Communities and Justice -Housing(DCJHousing) and Stacy has a part time position cleaning at the local school. They are receiving unemployment benefits from Centrelink.
From this scenario answer the following questions.
What impacts would major institutions in Australian society have on Graeme and Stacy and their family? (60 words)
Outline three (3) possible impacts of unemployment on Graeme and his family. (60 words)
Provide one (1) example of a social policy that may impact on the Johnston family. (60 words)
What stereotypical attitudes might people have about Graeme and Stacy? Discuss at least three (3) stereotypes and their possible impacts on inequality. (60 words)
Describe two (2) examples of organisational policy and procedures that would be relevant if you were providing community services for the Johnston family. (60 words)
Part 3 Extended answer question (Total 500 words)
Australia is a society where everyone has an equal chance and access to opportunities and resources regardless of age, culture or social factors.
Do you believe this statement is true or false? Discuss based on your understanding of unit
content and your understanding of the community services sector.
