MBA621 Assessment 2, T2 2023 Supplementary Guidelines

You must also refer to the KBS assessment guide and marking rubric.

Your task: Individually, develop a 2000-word report and recommendations on the biggest challenge facing the disability health care sector in Australia today. Due date is Tuesday 19th September (@11.55pm AEST). If you submit after this date & time, you will not be able to check your works similarity score in Turnitin.

Assessment Description: The purpose of this individual assessment is to foster your ability to utilise a systems-thinking approach to analyse a specific sector of the Australian health care system, determine how it operates, and understand its challenges and opportunities.

Assessment Instructions: Assuming you are the Shadow Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia, you are to write a report that clearly articulates your partys position with respect to what you believe is the most pressing issue facing the NDIS today, and as part of that outline your recommendations to address this challenge.

Note: What is a Shadow Minister? They are in the opposition political party i.e., they are not in government, but want to be elected. In Australia, currently the Coalition (liberal/national political parties) have formed the opposition whilst the Australian Labor Party is in government at the federal level.

Report should be structured as follows (5 marks for format and 5 marks for grammar & spelling):

A Cover page (on its own page)

An Executive Summary (on its own page)

A Table of Contents (on its own page)

An Introduction that summarises the purpose of the report.

An overview of the NDIS sector today, including projections for the next 3-5 years.

Outline the current issues facing the NDIS sector and the issue you believe is the most pressing.

Based on a systems thinking approach, critically review, explain and justify your reasonings for selecting the most pressing issue.

Provide two (2) detailed recommendations, including associated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that would be used to measure your proposal.

A conclusion

Reference List required to use at least 12 sources of information (at least 5 of these should be academic journals)

COVER PAGE

Document Title, Name, Student Number, Subject code, T2, 2023

Does not count toward word count

Included in the formatting grade (5 marks)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (10 Marks)

Should be on a separate and a single individual page (200 words max the 10% rule). This is a stand-alone document. It is usually written last.

Must contain the following key elements and headings (its NOT another introduction)

Aim/s or Problem Statement: State what the report evaluates

Method/s: State method of analysis used (must be succinct)

Finding/s: State the key specific findings from your analysis (must be succinct)

Recommendations: State the (2) recommendations outlined in the report (each recommendation should be a single statement in bullet points).

Limitations: State any limitations in your research (if any)

Concluding sentence the key takeaway or final thought

DO NOT provide your Executive Summary in one long single paragraph. Each of the points above should be presented as a discreet paragraph separated by a line spacing.

INTRODUCTION (approx. 150 words)

Included in the formatting grade (5 marks)

Start the Introduction on a new page.

DO NOT focus on historical information about the NDIS, such as when it was founded, etc. - it will not add value to your report. Give a brief background of the purpose of the NDIS (1 sentence) then explain the aim of the report and provide a preview of the report (Max 4-5 sentences)

OVERVIEW OF NDIS , CURRENT ISSUES AND PROJECTIONS (25 MARKS) (approx. 600 words)

Give an update on current status of the NDIS, then list and discuss the projections for the next 3-5 years.

List the current issues from your research.

This could be a good section to gather journal article references!

Discuss them briefly. State which issue your political party views as the most important. (the next section will provide the evidence to justify this view)

CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE SELECTED ISSUE (25 MARKS) (approx. 600 words)

Critically review the selected issue using a systems tool so you can see the bigger picture (can use more than one e.g., PEST/LE, SWOT, Mindmapping etc, but dont necessarily need to as long as your analysis is comprehensive and justifies that the issue you have selected is the most pressing)

Use this analysis to explain and justify your selection of the issue being the most important

Another good section to gather those journal article references!

So, if your issue is for example, sustainability of the scheme, you would do an analysis regarding this issue. Why is it the most pressing issue? Your analysis should provide the evidence to support your selection.

P what are the political factors

E what are the economic factors

S what are the social factors

T what are the technological factors

E what are the environmental factors (not necessary to do environment, as there may be none)

L what are the legal/regulatory factors

RECOMMENDATIONS (20 MARKS) (approx. 400 words)

What are you recommending, Who is going to do it, When are they going to do it and How will you measure its success (KPI)

2 detailed recommendations only

Must be feasible and linked to selected issue and the analysis above

CONCLUSION (5 MARKS) (approx. 150-200 words)

A summary of the key takeaway points for the reader

Do not introduce any new information in the conclusion

REFERENCE LIST (5 MARKS)

Does not count toward word count

12 sources 5 from academic journals

Harvard style

Must use in-text citations (I would expect you would have to use an in-text citation about every second sentence sometimes more)
