The aim of this written assignment is for students to achieve ULOs 1 and 2 and obtain GLOs 1 and 2.

Assignment Requirements

Imagine you work for a multi-national enterprise (MNE) headquartered in Australia that needs a new international call centre to service its global customer base. You are on the MNE organizing team and are responsible for the International HRM strategy. The new call centre needs to be a success in terms of the following strategic goals of the MNE:

the centre should delight callers; and

the call centres employee turnover will be minimal except for death, retirement, or promotion within the MNE.

You need to decide in which country globally you put the call centre.

In your essay, provide justification for your plan. Your essay MUST include the following:

give the reasons for deciding the country in which to put the call centre;explain how your decision will help the MNE meets its strategic goals (delight customers and have minimal turnover);explain the design of the centres processes of recruitment and selection;set out your priorities for training and development within the call centre;set out your preferred performance management and compensation models;consideration of the host countrys legislative or regulatory requirements, including whether trade unions do not exist, or have little impact in the chosen country.

Please note the following:

The expected format of this assessment is a standard university essay. You MUST have:

an introduction,

followed by a body of content setting out the arguments for each of the areas above (i-vi),

and finishing with a conclusion summarising the key points.

This is not a group assignment.

Ensure that you adhere to the word limit of your essay within 3000 words (plus or minus 10%, exclusive of the references section).

Ensure that you cover ALL aspects of the essay questions i-vi.

In your, analysis you should draw on authoritative sources to support your arguments and analysis. Authoritative means peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly texts and research books, mainstream media, employer associations, trade unions, and reputable public institutions.

You should not refer to internet blogs or unsubstantiated web content, recognisable by them having no legitimacy in representation and no authority accountable to public, political or academic review.

Remember the Unit Reading List is a great place to start your reading!

You should not offer personal opinions or rely on personal experience but put forward your analysis, supported by authoritative sources. Write in the third person.

There is no requirement or recommendation as to the number of maximum sources that should be cited. However, as a common rule of thumb, a minimum of at least 10 references is recommended to write an essay of 3000 words (but this is not prescriptive and should not be seen as a maximum).

Remember:

Ensure you use professional and academic language (third person and, for example, do not rather than dont) and not a casual or journalistic style.

Your essay should be presented in a reader-friendly way, so please ensure it:

has a title page

is written in essay format

is in 12pt font

is 1.5 spaced with 2 cm margins on each side

has numbered pages

uses correct in-text referencing (Australian Harvard system)

includes a reference list which begins on a new page and is correctly formatted (Deakin Australian Harvard system: https://www.deakin.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0012/2230401/Deakin-guide-to-Australian-Harvard.pdfPapers that include no citations, that is, no in-text references, will attract an automatic zero mark. Resubmission is not permitted. Papers that have no reference list will also attract an automatic zero mark. Resubmission is not permitted.
