The aim of this assignment is to develop an HRM policy that can be used in the workplace. You should choose an organisation in which you are currently working, were previously employed or aspire to work.
The organisation that I previously was employed was KFC for 2 years. You can use this for this assessment.
Develop an HRM policy on ONE of the topics for your chosen organisation:

Part 1 Policy Analysis (1000 words)
(Policy analysis is an important process that should be carried out before a policy is to be developed, drafted, and finalised. It is a process that examines and analyses the internal and external contextual factors that impact on the operations of the business of the organisation chosen for this assessment. In addition to the examination and analysis of the internal and external contextual factors, the key mechanisms of the HR process, that are necessary for achieving the organisational objective(s), supporting the business strategy(ies), complying with particular laws, coping with particular external contextual factors, etc., should also be examined and discussed in the policy analysis process.)
- Internal and external issues analysis
Internal issues refer to:
Organisational objectives, business strategic choice, HR needs and HR strategies
Organisation culture and its approaches (management values) to managing employees
Ethical treatment of employees (i.e., organisational justice)
Ethical business practices (e.g., in decision-making)
Approaches to corporate social responsibility
External issues refer to the contextual factors (external environment) that influence policy.
These contextual factors include:
Law: Industrial relations, anti-discrimination, occupational safety and health and privacy
Government policy: Employment, education and training, immigration & citizenship, industrial relations
Economic conditions: Economic conditions in good times and bad times
Societal values and issues: Prevailing values and preferences shared by stakeholders outside the organisation.
- High priority issues
Among the above-mentioned internal and external issues, identify a couple of essential issues that need to be addressed in the policy being developed.
- Policy problem
If you are to review and rewrite an pre-existing HR policy, you need to point out problems that you are going to amend and explain why the amendments are necessary.
You still need to analyse the internal and external issues (factors) of the chosen company in PART 1; and
You must make sure:
the amended policy has fulfilled the 3 purposes of an effective HR policy
the reasons for amending the policy are clearly stated in Section3 - 'Policy Statement' in PART 2
the amended policy is structured in 8 sections exactly in accordance with the format shown on the policy template
include a copy of the existing HR policy and append it as an appendix in Part 2.
Part 2 Policy Development (1000 words)
A policy on your chosen topic will be prepared according to the proper techniques for writing a policy.
The following structure should be followed.

A brief description of the intent and rationale of the policy
Scope
Who is covered in the policy?
Identify to which parties in the organisation or to which particular situations the policy applies or it applies generally across the organisation in any situation.
Policy statement
It is a concise and formal statement of the principal objectives of the policy and it provides a framework of mandatory principles (organisational culture, management principles and adopted business ethics) to be incorporated in the policy and its procedures.
Contextual factors
4.1 External contextual factors
4.1.1 Laws and legal obligations that have direct or indirect consequences on the policy, e.g., EEO, OHS, Discriminatory laws, privacy, etc.
4.1.2 Government policy that is very much related to the policy
4.1.3 Economic reasons that warrant the writing of this policy
4.1.4 Societal values & issues that are very much related to this policy
4.2 Internal contextual factors
4.2.1 Organisation's mission & culture that relate to and need to be reflected in the policy
4.2.3 Organisational objectives & strategic choice that relate to and need to be achieved and supported by the policy
4.2.4 Managing principles that relate to and need to be observed in the execution of the policy
Process and a 1-page diagram or flowchart of key mechanisms of the process
5.1. A framework of key mechanisms for implementing the HR process of the policy topic and achieving the policys objectives by involved parties.
5.2. A 1-page diagram/flowchart outlining the flow of key mechanisms that must be included in the procedures to be developed subsequently after the approval of the policy
Other related policies
Other internal policies, issued by your chosen organisation, that influence the writing and subsequent execution of the policy.
Accountabilities and contacts
The hierarchical roles and authorities that are involved in the development, approval, implementation and application of the policy, for example:
Development & drafting - HRM manager,
Approval - CEO in conjunction with board members,
Implementation - Line managers or concerned line managers,
End-users - Employees or concerned employees
Name and contact details of the responsible person to whom the interpretation of the policy can be sought.
Evaluation measures
Means to monitor and measure the effectiveness of the policy
