Part A: Reflection

Description

While I was working in Na Hospital in the year 2021, I get a call around 12 AM midnight claiming a patient from ward 4 was having difficulty in breathing and was also having lower pulse rates. On rushing to the ward I realized that the individual needed some high amount of oxygen and nebulizers as the patient was unable to inhale.

Feelings

I was quite afraid as I was extremely new in the hospital and was afraid that I make a wrong decision which can be harmful to the patients and might also lead to life threats (Molina-Mula & Gallo-Estrada 2020). However, I was also confident about the skills and knowledge I have based on which I approached the Patient and I was instructed by RN to provide him with a high dosage of Doxylamine which allowed the individual to sleep off so that the body can relax and the oxygen levels can be increased. This was being instructed by Registered Nurse.

Evaluation

I slowly started to gain confidence based on which I ensured that I am keeping myself calm and doing every bit based on which the individuals can maintain better stability and can also ensure that higher stability is being gained, I also analyzed that delayed care and understanding of the patient issues could have resulted in deterioration and also could have caused life-threatening issues.

Analysis

The patient demonstrated two most common issues such as difficulty in breathing and improper pulse rates which further triggered the nurse's availability upon which they informed the emergency teams. Being a part of the emergency team and being present in the flow, I was having a responsibility to attend to the patient immediately. During the nursing, the course was informed to follow certain protocols and rules by which there can be systematic operations be maintained. Hence, this knowledge and the aspects helped in making certain that I am developing the work in an authentic manner and also trying every bit by which the life of the individual can be saved (Oshodi et al. 2019).

I first thought that the patient was seizing because of a poor oxygen supply. Later, after analyzing the history of the patient and going through the reports, I found that the Patient had severe symptoms of Covid 19 which led me to believe that the sudden change in respiration was; primarily caused because of the improper oxygen supply. I was being suggested by the Registered Nurse to ensure that proper oxygen is being supplied and monitoring of the oxygen levels should keep and report of the same should be updated in every hour. This way the response time towards the patients can be improved in a greater way for which the health of the patient was also quite effective.

Going through the hospital protocols, it was essential to inform the doctors in case the situation is not being controlled. Since the situation was under control, the doctors were informed at a later stage so that they have the idea of the diagnosis being done when they are not present. The doctors have the proper idea of the needed diagnosis hence; it is a must to intimate them regarding the issue.

Conclusion

Concluding with the topic, it can also be said that the experience e was one of a Kind since I have never handled such cases. Moreover, I also believe that every individual should have a better understanding towards the work they are doing based on which they can develop themselves in a better way. I was successful in meeting the needs and the protocols of the hospital and obeyed everything that was said to us so that patient safety and security can be maintained in a proper way.

Action Plan

In future, if I encounter similar situations, I would be again be going through the protocols and the policies that are supposed to be followed by the Nursed. However, other situations can be even worst for which I will notify the respective doctors so that they can visit the patient and prescribe the changed drugs. This will also be helpful in reducing their pain and will provide an immediate change. Many times I might not have a doctor available to check on the patient. In such cases, I will be going through my own learnings that will be helpful in reducing the challenges and will also help in managing complex operations. The actions will also be depending upon the different situations that I encounter based on which effective steps can be taken. However, there has to be direct supervision based on which proper developments can be done in the organization.

Part B: Star Framework

Opening- Star framework helps in assessing the task done and the specific results obtained from the task. It also analyses the situation based on which the business development can be quite effective.

Situation- The situation was quite demanding as there was a patient that had immense breathing issues and was low on their pulse as well which needed immediate assistance from the teams so that their health can be improved. The event occurred in Fiona Stanly Hospital, Australia for which providing them with immediate assistance was quite important.

Task- I increased the oxygen levels and provided the patient with insulin so that their body rests the oxygen intake can also be quite effective. This ensured that the patient is able to take the oxygen in a better way and can also ensure that their health is being monitored in an effective way based on which the operations can be improved in a better way.

Action- I allowed the patient to relax for some time before injecting Doxylamine so that they can slowly get to sleep and I can prepare the oxygen levels at high by which their overall oxygen count can be increased in an effective way. This way the patient ensured to have better health and also developed a higher oxygen rate on the next day. This was also helpful as the doctors could visit the patient the next day and suggested certain medicines that must be changed so as to have effective health.

Result- Positive results were achieved by me as I was able to think critically regarding the needs and the demands of the patient and provide an accurate suggestion based on which his bodily functions improved. Based on the Registered Nurse standard of practice, the nurses should be able to think critically and ensure that better stability is gained. This will help them in regulating their practice and use full consciousness by which they can save the life of the patient. Moreover, as per practice 2.2, it is also essential in making certain that the support to the patients is being provided under any circumstances. Hence, the steps that I had taken so as to help the patients were the protocols that are present in Registered Nurse standards of practice. Communication with the patient with full dignity and respect is also a code of concern as per 2.4. Hence, I also ensured that I am not harming the patient under any circumstances. For anything that I did not have a proper idea of, I refrained from using it as it was not covered under the practice which is also prohibited under article 6.2.
