PREPARING YOUR RESEARCH PROPOSAL Prepare your research proposal using the subheadings provided below.
Assessment Task 1 Questions
1. Research Statement (minimum 150 words)
A research study is always triggered by a question that is in the mind of the researcher/research group what is the purpose of the research? What are the main themes? What use will the information/data be?
We know that stigma against mental health exists.Research has shown us the nature of stigma associated with mental illness and its consequences in all spheres of life of ill persons and their families. It is also suggested that there is a need to develop intervention strategies to reduce stigma.
What sustains stigma and misinformation within the Mental Health Sector?
To understand the nature of stigma associated with mental health sector and to develop an intervention package and study its impact.
2. Literature Review on the issues being researched (main body of the assessment, maximum 500 words)
In this section, you need to provide a summary of your key findings on issues related to your topic (above). Use a minimum 5 pieces of literature, incorporating a mix of academic sources. Please ensure that you use the Harvard Referencing Guide.
3. Objectives of the Question you want answered
The objectives are the lines of investigation to address your research statement. In this section you need to think clearly and focus on what you want answered in this research? What do you want to find out about /to identify /to assess?
4. Target group for the study
The purpose of describing your target group is to assist you to focus on the group of people you are trying to learn about. If we say worker who is part of that group. We need to be careful that when we describe and discuss the target group we do not stereotype them or use negative terms.
5. Stakeholders for the study
Who are the various parties that you think may have a stake/interest in this research?
6. Ethical considerations
Identify three (3) ethical issues related to you research and explain very briefly how you plan to address these.
7. Methodology for the research
Once you are clear about your question you need to decide about the method/s you would use to gather information. Please state the reasons why you are selecting a specific method/s and indicate the preferred number of respondents for each eg survey, telephone interviews. Indicate if your method/s are Quantitative or Qualitative.
8. Time Schedule for the project provide a written plan i.e Chart or Timetable, for the three stages of the project i.e Proposal, Plan and Implementation.
9. Implementation Identify factors that may influence the successful implementation of your proposed research.
